Responsibilities

  • Analyze problems related to composite materials and produce innovative solutions using various fabrication and material methods, including layup techniques, resin infusion, as well as pre or post machining.
  • Define lamination schedules for composite components, ensuring optimal material selection and usage; ensure structural integrity throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Oversee and engage in product development, guiding projects from design and development through implementation while monitoring progress and reporting status updates and any issues to management.
  • Evaluate designs for potential flaws specific to composite structures and recommend modifications to eliminate identified issues.
  • Comply with all federal regulations while upholding organizational values and standards in all engineering practices.
  • Prepare assembly or product layout and detailed drawings, participating actively in the manufacturing or assembly of prototype products or systems.
  • Design and conduct experiments to validate composite material properties and performance, using data to inform design decisions and optimize product functionality.
  • Conduct tolerance studies, apply GD&T principles, perform stress-analysis studies, develop reliability testing procedures, and generate comprehensive design verification reports.
  • Integrate with quality and tooling teams to write standards of conformance.
  • Integrate with the production team to identify suppliers, scope capital equipment, facilitate engineering transfer of tooling.
  • Design and implement testing methods to analyze product capabilities, troubleshooting any mechanical or structural flaws in composite components.
  • Ensure that design implementation, testing, and maintenance processes are developed and executed in alignment with company quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in mechanical, structural, automotive, aerospace or chemical engineering, specifically in composite materials and systems.
  • Proven experience with the entire product development lifecycle, from concept through to implementation and testing.
  • Strong working knowledge of analytic tools, such as ANSYS, Matlab, Rhino, Creo, or SOLIDWORKS with a focus on composite applications.
  • Familiarity with core engineering concepts, including mechanics, materials science, fluid dynamics, and their applications in composite design.
  • A working proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) systems, including CAM and CAE tools, for creating detailed drawings and simulations.
  • Experience in aerospace or maritime engineering is highly desirable, with a focus on composite structures.
  • Desirable to have a background in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation to assess the performance of composite systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
