Data Engineering

Due to the nature of the client engagements, every employee needs to be able to achieve Security Clearance. This means that you need to have the right to take up employment within the UK, do not have or require any visa to work, and have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years without any gap(s) totalling more than 6 months.

You should be able to easily commute to our London office. For some roles/projects, travel to the clients offices will be required and the frequency is often determined by the client.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of data engineering products including ETL pipelines using batch and streaming technologies based on software engineering best practice according to client requirements
• Design and lead the implementation of modern data services, responsible for tool selection and able to articulate their ideas to clients and other stakeholders
• Re-engineer data pipelines to be scalable, robust, automatable, and repeatable
• Develop data applications and services including exports, reporting, APIs, and data visualisations
• Navigate, explore and query large scale datasets
• Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
• Identify and resolve data issues including data quality, data mapping, database and application issues
• Implement data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems
• Deliver high quality implementation and documentation for critical functionality
• Lead on delivery of code, unit tests, feature tests, stubs and integration tests
• Mentor and manage teams of data engineers
• Operate in an agile environment as part of a scrum team and participate in sprint rituals

Requirements

• Expert level programming in one of the following programming languages: Java, Scala or Python
• Comfortable in a cloud environment with an understanding of cloud architecture including cloud native design. We are especially interested in AWS services such as S3 buckets, AWS Glue, Redshift, Athena etc
• Able to architect solutions and advise clients on the use of NoSQL & SQL databases
• Comfortable working with large data sets and can take the lead on processing optimisation
• Experience building data/ELT pipelines
• Experience working across big data technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Elastic search etc
• Experience with Data modelling

Whilst having experience in a consultancy is beneficial, demonstrable experience in working with clients/external partners in other settings will always be considered.
