Semiconductors are the electronic heart of today´s world – be it as billions of transistors in modern processors, micron sized sensors for motion, air quality or magnetic fields or high-performance power switches in future electrical vehicles.

At Bosch, one of the world's leading suppliers of MEMS sensors and power semiconductors, we combine innovative design and manufacturing to create the products of the future.

One of the most innovative fields in semiconductor manufacturing is laser processing. As enabling technology, lasers allow for the realization of advanced functionalities or enhanced productivity in specific sensor applications. Exploiting their full technological potential however requires deep understanding of the effects, laser processing exerts on the properties of the machined semiconductor materials. Especially for MEMS sensors, controlling the impact on mechanical properties is a key factor for successfully deploying new laser processes to our sensor manufacturing. To push the limits of sensor and power semiconductor production, we are looking for you to join our research and development.

  • Create something new: Take a deep dive into laser semiconductor interaction and resulting effects on mechanical properties, work with state-of-the-art laser processing equipment and develop novel process approaches and strategies
  • Take responsibility: Design, conduct and analyze experiments and simulations, deduce physical cause-effect relationships, and leverage your findings for directing our internal pre-development towards novel product and process designs
  • Experience cooperation: Become a part of our highly skilled and motivated team and work in a close cooperation of corporate research and sensor process development in the mobility electronics business unit, as well as relevant external research partners all over the world

Requirements

  • Education: excellent Master´s degree in physics, engineering, natural science or similar
  • Experience and Knowledge:
    • Sound knowledge of fundamental and material physics and respective characterization methods
    • Knowhow in laser material processing, especially surface processing (ablation, drilling, …) and ultrashort-pulsed lasers is beneficial
    • Experience in scientific work, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation, as well as programming (e.g., Python, Matlab) and simulation skills
  • Personality: innovative, open-minded, willingness to dive deep into a complex topic, motivating yourself and others
  • Working Practice: structured, analytical, conscientious, result-oriented, and cooperative
  • Enthusiasm: keen to create something new as part of a team, strong interest in physical backgrounds as well as semiconductor devices for (MEMS) sensors and power semiconductor applications
  • Languages: fluent competencies in spoken and written English and German
