The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a Graduate Assistant for the SNHU Center for New Americans, Amiko Youth Program.

* This is an off-campus work location. This is an approved work location for international students.

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Manage Amiko Youth Program activities within the new commercial kitchen space. This includes receiving food, preparing food, cooking food, and serving food to 40 children daily.
  • Work closely with the Nutrition Program Manager to create weekly menus and shopping lists for youth programming within federal nutritional requirements and culturally appropriate guidelines.
  • Work with the Associate Director to create lessons and activities for youth participants. These activities will focus on nutritional education and STEAM learning in the kitchen. All lessons are created for English language learners. Teaching these lessons and activities is an option if there is an interest.
  • Provide staffing for the Center for New Americans after-school youth program as needed.
  • Maintain detailed tracking data for monthly reporting.
  • Obtain ServeSafe Manager Certification. Requires short course study and online testing paid for by the Center for New Americans.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children in a camp or school setting.
  • Strong interest in nutritional education for children.
  • Enrollment in a Graduate program at SNHU.
  • Organized, high level of attention to detail, excellent communication, and social skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate cross-culturally.
  • Preferred qualification: Experience working in food preparation or in a kitchen.

Work Hours:

Required to be in-person from the hours of 3pm-7pm Monday-Thursday. 16 hours a week. Remote flexibility on Fridays if additional hours are desired up to 20 hours/week.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
