Purpose

Serve as the primary human resources contact for the School of Architecture, providing high level HR support and processing for faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

SCHOOL-WIDE: Serve as the school’s point of contact and troubleshooter for inquiries concerning faculty, staff, and student employment, payroll, benefits, and leave management. Function as the primary timekeeper and absence partner for the SOA. Monitor employment compliance policies through the use of Workday reports. Maintain accurate personnel records, reports, and other HR documentation. Participate in HR process improvement efforts within the SOA. This includes ensuring websites and guidance documents contain accurate information and are regularly updated with current policies, processes, and forms. Assist with the annual salary and merit process and annual performance appraisals in Workday. Escalate complex HR matters to assistant dean/chief business officer as needed. Represent the SOA at EVPP Academic Consortium, Student Employment Forum, HR Spectrum, and ad-hoc campus HR work groups and meetings. Consult with campus partners, including the Provost’s Office, Human Resources, Texas Global, Payroll, Benefits, eBits, and other related offices for all human resource functions.

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT: Responsible for all student employment processing, including tuition reduction benefits, timekeeping, reporting, mass transactions, and onboarding/offboarding. Serve as a point of reference for students and supervisors on student employment policies, eligibility, payroll, benefits, international student rules and processes, and work-study.

STAFF EMPLOYMENT: Responsible for all staff employment processing related to recruiting, hiring, separations, reporting, salary adjustments, job changes, leave management, flexible work arrangements, timekeeping, and absence.

FACULTY EMPLOYMENT: Responsible for processing and monitoring all new and continuing faculty appointments including summer teaching and research, course buyouts, phased retirement, timekeeping, and absence. Process additional jobs, one-time payments, mass transaction submissions, separations, and payouts. Create and manage professional-track job postings in Interfolio.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or related field
  • Five years of professional experience in a human resources function
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing solutions
  • Ability to thrive in and effectively manage ambiguous situations, demonstrating adaptability and sound judgment when navigating uncertain or evolving circumstances
  • Proven ability to multitask, balance multiple projects concurrently, and maintain timely schedules
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and independently

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than the required amount of experience and/or education
  • Skilled in a customer-focused approach and collaborating with faculty, student, and staff
  • Experience using Workday
  • Experience drafting and implementing policies
  • Demonstrated ability maintaining and promoting technologically advanced office protocols and process innovations
  • Professional HR experience with faculty and student employment in higher education
  • Understanding of UT’s employment policies, practices, and administrative structure
  • Demonstrated interest in architecture, design, or fine arts

Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • May work weekends and evenings as necessary
  • This position is expected to work on site at the School of Architecture but has limited opportunity for flexible work arrangements at a maximum of two remote days per week.

The available work schedule is between 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, M - F.

Employment Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
