Due to a healthy pipeline of work, our Buildings & Places group are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their team, based in Canberra.

This role would suit someone who possesses excellent technical and design skills, with the ability to deliver projects across a range of market sectors.

What will a day in this role look like:

  • Utilise your extensive design experience to facilitate high-quality and cost-effective project delivery on health, defence, government, transport and other building projects across ANZ.
  • Lead Mechanical design and project delivery for our major client projects, including the technical review of projects and management of small project teams, while also providing guidance and mentoring to junior engineers within the business when preparing technical design documentation.
  • Work effectively within a team of multi-disciplinary engineers on a range of projects, using your technical expertise to drive quality through review of design calculations, specifications and drawings.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders across our expansive multi-disciplinary engineering team to provide technical advice on some community and place making defining projects.

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • Ideally, 5-10+ yearsโ€™ experience working for a Building Services consultancy.
  • A proven record in technical design and project delivery whilst maintaining and enhancing client relationships.
  • Hold necessary qualifications to obtain registration in the ACT and other jurisdictions (e.g. CPEng and/or NER credentials).
  • In-depth understanding of Building Services projects and Standards to impart your technical knowledge to clients, junior engineers and broader teams on a range of major projects.
  • Exposure to running multiple technical projects simultaneously with demonstrable design experience across a variety of market sectors.
  • Experience in leading small and large teams at the project level, managing project teams, deliverables, budgets and schedule.
  • Excellent communication and people skills with the passion and ability to mentor and train younger Engineers within the business.
  • Drive innovation and efficiency improvements within the team.
  • Experience working in building mechanical services design including heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, automatic control systems, building management systems, mechanical electrical systems. Experience in industrial gas and ventilation systems and high-reliability system design is also desirable.
  • Proficiency in industry standard software including AutoCAD, Camel, Revit, MS Office.
