About the role

The Design and Drafting manager is responsible for providing designs, general assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings, P&ID layout, electrical drawings and drawing updates. The role will issue drawings for tender for review/approval and release manufacturing drawings to workshop and suppliers.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and coach the design draftsperson, providing guidance in interpreting project requirements, standards, and specifications.
  • Track and evaluate the Design Draftsperson's key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Manage the recruitment, selection, and training of new employees.
  • Generate reports for management and liaise with other department managers to ensure smooth operations.

Operations

  • Develop and implement standardized design processes, workflows, and best practices to streamline project delivery and maintain consistency and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and project management, to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Establish clear timelines, milestones, and deliverables for design projects, monitoring progress to ensure timely completion.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for design-related inquiries and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Technical Expertise and Communication

  • Review and approve technical drawings, models, and plans to ensure accuracy, compliance with standards, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to resolve complex design issues encountered during the design process.
  • Communicate project status, progress, and potential risks to senior management, project teams, and clients

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, or Project Management.
  • Over 5 years of drafting experience in an industrial environment, with a strong background in metal fabrication, pipework, and process diagrams.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD and AutoCAD 2D drafting, with high computer literacy and knowledge of computer network systems.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks within a project management framework.
  • Proven experience in managing a team, fostering a collaborative work environment, and leading effectively.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with a thorough understanding of design principles, standards, and regulations related to metal fabrication, pipework, and fuel tanks.
