Design Engineer - Coolant Transfer Lines

This role will support engineering design and development activities for complex coolant routing systems (and its attachments and connections) from concept to Mass Production for a large-scale Automotive OEM.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the engineering activities for large scale product development programs by investigating feasibility, performing design using 3-D modeling software, conduct layout review and 2D drawing creation.
• Develop coolant transfer lines/hoses/pipes (including routing and mounting/assembly bracketry) to achieve efficient and balanced thermal system solutions.
• Develop and mature assigned components from concept through mass production
• Analyze and resolve problems with moderate level of guidance and direction.
• Create part specification requirements and BOM.
• Negotiate with surrounding component business units and suppliers.
• Search new ways to increase overall efficiency, utilize up-to-date technology, and reduce design and parts costs.
• Travel to client sites required.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of industry experience developing Coolant transfer lines/pipes/hoses for Automotive Cooling Systems required

• Education with the following specialties preferred: Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Aerospace, Automotive.

• Experience developing coolant transfer lines/hoses/pipes including material selection, routing and mounting/assembly bracketry (Clamps, Clips, sheetmetal/stamped brackets, fasteners) from Concept to Mass Production

• Strong knowledge and understanding of Fluid dynamics (Fluid flow, pressure drop, etc), Thermodynamics (Heat/energy transfer), DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is required.

• 2+ years of experience using CAD tools for 3D Data and 2D DWG creation (CREO Preferred)

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency in MS office.
