Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced NPI Engineer to join our innovative team. As a NPI engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the manufacturability and transfer of our cutting-edge products. You will lead the design and execution of quality testing strategies for concurrent manufacturing lines, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and play a pivotal role in driving quality across all stages of the product development lifecycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Product Development:
    • Co-design with the development team on design and improvement of electronic devices after initial prototypes.
    • Engage and drive the product creation from PCBA design and Firmware architecture all the way to deployment, participating holistically throughout the product development.
    • Oversee product characterization, including test and validation to meet functional and performance criteria.
    • Generate and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) with a focus on cost evaluation and optimization.
    • Coordinate product packaging design and validation, ensuring alignment with customer and regulatory requirements.
    • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to ensure products can be efficiently produced and run at high yield at scale.
  • Supply Chain Management:
    • Collaborate with sourcing teams to identify primary and alternate materials, ensuring supply chain resilience.
    • Manage phased BOM schedules, transitioning from initial prototypes to Value Engineering (VE) BOM for mass production.
  • Documentation and Process Management:
    • Develop comprehensive product instructions, including EPT (Engineering Process Transfer) and TPET (Test Process Engineering Transfer), along with visual aids.
    • Create and manage SIPOC diagrams (Supplier Input Process Output Customer) to optimize process flows.
    • Oversee calendarization and project timelines to ensure smooth ramp-up during the production phase.
  • Process Improvement and Quality Assurance:
    • Lead line balancing efforts to optimize production efficiency.
    • Design and define production stations, focusing on ergonomics and workflow.
    • Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
    • Architect fixturing solutions to support production requirements.
    • Participate in root cause analysis to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
    • Develop and maintain quality inspection checklists to ensure adherence to product specifications.
  • Training and Development:
    • Lead the training of engineers at the factory, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for all new products, troubleshooting, and manufacturing.
    • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to engineering teams to foster continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical preferred but mechanical engineering or systems accepted
  • 5+ years of experience in NPI, manufacturing engineering, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of DFM, FMEA, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Advanced Python Programming
  • Embedded Systems experience required
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, supply chain, and production teams.
  • Experience with BOM management and product lifecycle documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Spanish is a plus
  • Proficiency with CAD software and manufacturing simulation tools.
  • Experience with ERP systems

The salary range for this role is $120,000 to $250,000, plus bonuses and Pre-IPO equity. It is uncommon for anyone to be hired at or near the top range for their role, and final compensation is based on the facts and circumstances of the case. The compensation range is broad because it reflects many factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience, and training directly relevant to the role, business and company needs, cultural fit, level, and location.
