Sony Honda Mobility of America Inc, based in Culver City, CA, is a subsidiary of Sony Honda Mobility Inc headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. As a 50/50 joint venture between Sony and Honda, SHM was established in Japan on September 28th, 2022, with over 200 employees in Tokyo. Sony Honda Mobility of America, situated in Culver City, California, was established in March 2023, where our dedicated team is working on introducing the electric vehicle, AFEELA, to the market. Position Summary

SHMA is seeking a highly skilled regulatory engineer to lead and manage environmental certification activities for our electric vehicle, in Culver City, C.A. This role will ensure compliance with environmental standards and regulations, focusing on EPA and CARB requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee projects for environmental certification of electric vehicles.
  • Prepare regulatory compliance reports and provide supporting documentation.
  • Facilitate communications with regulatory agencies and ensure alignment with changing EPA and CARB regulations.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams to maintain compliance and create traceable documentation.
  • Stay updated on upcoming EPA and CARB research and regulatory initiatives by participating in industry and government meetings.
  • Communicate environmental trends, technologies, and regulations to R&D teams through regular meetings and presentations.
  • Guide R&D teams on regulatory actions and respond to inquiries from government agencies.
  • Interpret and analyze newly published regulations and proposals, providing insights to the team.
  • Manage the U.S. environmental regulatory program, tracking legislation, regulations, and trends related to GHG emissions, ZEVs, fuel economy, batteries, and more.
  • Submit corporate comments on U.S. environmental regulations and collaborate with industry workgroups.
  • Meet with government officials to discuss environmental initiatives and present regulatory information to internal teams and affiliates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the automotive industry, with a focus on electric vehicles.
  • In-depth knowledge of EPA and CARB regulations relevant to the automotive sector.
  • Experience in creating technical or processing documentation.
  • Strong technical understanding of automotive powertrains and emission control systems.
  • Excellent ability to interpret and communicate complex regulatory and technical issues.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $90,000 to $110,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
