We are hiring a Power Area Run Plant Engineer

The successful candidate serves as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical skills to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems, and enable safe and efficient production of low cost, quality products.

This role focuses on sustaining or returning equipment to current performance standards and works with the reliability engineer to lead longer term improvements for electrical and instrumentation equipment.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Key Performance Indicators and trends to ensure optimal performance.
  • Responds urgently to emergencies and issues.
  • Provides the technical expertise on all matters of maintenance excellence.
  • Recommends needed improvements to operations and maintenance leadership in equipment maintenance including philosophies, strategies, and best maintenance practices.
  • Possess keen sense of ownership and are accountable for the success and failure of their assigned unit.
  • Respond urgently to plant issues and emergencies. Function as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drive implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure compliance with plant operating permits.
  • Set up metrics and management systems to drive optimization of plant value/EBITDA by all of operations (operators, Technical Advisors, maintenance, etc.).
  • Monitor equipment performance and troubleshoot equipment failures.
  • Partner with the experts to perform advanced troubleshooting and improve operating discipline. Diagnose and document root causes of asset utilization losses in the facility.
  • Apply engineering theory, practices, and principles to lead equipment root cause failure analysis.
  • Work with maintenance supervision, planners, and technicians to develop equipment repair procedures.
  • Provide technical input to the maintenance coordinator and operations team for determining the criticality of scheduling equipment down for needed maintenance.
  • Work with reliability engineer to obtain and interpret maintenance and reliability metrics for recommending needed improvements where warranted.
  • Support capital projects by participating and reviewing equipment selection and layout to optimize “maintainability” and meet site reliability goals. Promote consistency by input on standardizing equipment, providing technical expertise for installation, check-out, maintenance procedures and start-up of all new or modified critical equipment, and assuring that necessary spare parts are identified and maintained properly.
  • Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and field data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain lowest life cycle cost on different classes of equipment.
  • Identify training needs for mechanics and others supporting the maintenance function.
  • Participate in PSM activities as defined by site manuals and practices, focused on mechanical integrity (MI) and quality assurance (QA).
  • Participate in maintenance and reliability networks to learn and share best practices and leveraged sharing of successes and failures.
  • Participate in the interviewing, hiring, and mentoring of new maintenance co-ops, interns, and engineers.
  • Participate in continuing education, professional organizations, and industry conferences to improve competencies, keep current on, and evaluate recent technologies for their applicability.
  • Develop specific maintenance competency areas (i.e., planning & scheduling, turnaround execution, PPM technologies and methods, reliability tools, etc.)
  • Serve as a member of the site reliability improvement team; actively promote and work to instill a “reliability culture” within plant organizations and systems.
  • Develop and implement equipment asset plans using reliability centered maintenance, FMEA, and other reliability techniques.
  • Apply engineering theory, practices, and principles to perform physical failure analysis, determine root cause of equipment failures, and conduct equipment performance evaluations.
  • Continually promote consistency by standardizing procedures/equipment/operations within area of responsibility.
  • Participate as member of mechanical turn-around/shutdown team providing input into needed equipment test & inspection and repair procedures.
  • Participate in continuing education courses and training, professional organizations pertaining to maintenance and reliability and attend conferences to keep current on and evaluate new emerging technologies for their applicability.
  • Develop specific reliability competency areas and participate in business wide networks/forums as appropriate to maximize contribution at the site level and above.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical engineering with a preference for 3-7 years of reliability and maintenance work experience in petrochemical industry.
  • Strong leadership capability
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and implement multiple concurrent projects/tasks.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills (both oral & written)
  • Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with ability to influence managers, peers, and mechanics; able to take a “hands on” approach with operators and mechanics to get things done.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with and promote the capabilities of a diverse workforce.
  • Proven strong contributor with the ability to work independently.
  • Training and project experience with six sigma
  • Good personal computer and software skills especially with CMMS programs.
  • Understanding of business performance measures and critical to quality issues
  • Understands the process safety management (PSM) process particularly management of change, mechanical integrity, and quality assurance.

Functional Skills :

  • Maintenance excellence including planning, PPM, basic equipment reliability, maintenance materials management, contract maintenance and maintenance training.
  • Root cause failure analysis (RCFA), basic five why, and Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Industry and corporate engineering codes and their application.
  • ISO and other related quality standards.
  • Cost/Capital analysis and justification.
