We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Systen Engineer to join Japan SE organization at Ciena.

As a System Engineer, you will be working in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary group to position Ciena Solutions. You will work in a self-directed regional sales engineering team, where you will need to be self-motivated and will require strong self-leadership skills to explore solutions to engineering problems.

You will rely on your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience and interact with Research and Development; Product Line Management; Sales; and post sales teams in order to prove in new products, features, solutions and applications.

The ideal candidate will be motivated by working on leading edge Optical, Ethernet and Software Management technologies; direct interaction with customers and partners; influencing both technical and commercial direction within Ciena.

Your Responsibiltiies

• Technical prime for complete customer engagement and partner engagement.
• Respond to RFx and technical inquiries from customers and partners.
• Perform network design, simulation and BoM creation.
• Present product and solutions to customers and partners.
• Lead and support network designs and engineering documentation work.
• Work with PLM and R&D teams to propose product enhancements to meet customer requirements.
• Be capable of presenting to large audiences (workshops, seminers, conferences, etc) as Subject Matter Expert.
• Lead pre-sales activities with regional sales team that include customer bid (RFx) technical support, technical consultation, solution evaluation and design, PoC/V and field trial support, and other engineering Q&A support.
• Collaborate with other system engineers.
• Behave as "Go-To" person for allocated sales opportunities in allocated accounts.

• Ability to liaise with Ciena engineering personnel to capture new feature requirements, articulate key feature requirements and position Ciena solutions to meet those needs.
• Full working Knowledge of Photonics, Optical Transport, Ethernet and Network Management.
• Ability to respond to RFx and communicate technical quotations accurately.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent field of discipline. Masters in Optical Engineering an asset.
• Minimum 5 years in telecommunications industry related to DWDM, Optical Tranport Network, Photonics, Optical engineering, Ethernet switching, IP Routing and Network Management.
• Technical knowledge in DWDM, Optical Tranport Network, Photonics, Optical engineering, Ethernet switching, IP Routing and Network Management, instrumentation and/or test methodologies.
• Experience with test equipment: SONET/SDH/Ethernet/OTN test sets, Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA), Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR).
• Familiarity with link budgeting concepts and fiber-optic link impairments (e.g. attenuation, Chromatic Dispersion (CD), Four Wave Mixing (FWM), Self Phase modulation (SPM), Cross-Phase Modulation (XPM), Polarization Dependant Gain (PDG), Reflection, Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR), receiver sensitivity, bandwidth, etc.
• Knowledge and experience with 10G/40G/100G/400G/800G and higher rate modulation formats and concepts, especially coherent technology and an ability to articulate these to customers.
• Excellent Japanese and English communication skills (written and oral) for interaction ranging from executive to technical and operational personnel.
• Knowledge of Ciena products and solutions a definite asset.
