How You Will Contribute:

We are in search of a driven Optical Assembly Process Engineer to become part of our team! You will be an integral part of a team tasked with supporting our assembly processes necessary for a successful WL6 n/e product launch. Your role will necessitate interactions with managers, engineers, and technicians across various R&D functions.

Optical Assembly Process Engineer duties and responsibilities

  • SME on all wire bonding, stud bumping requirements supporting our photonic component programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop wire bonding solutions for our photonic components.
  • Lead our team in development of Accelerated Aging Burn-in solutions for our photonic components.
  • Work with product engineers and reliability engineers to investigate device failures throughout various stages of product development; alpha, beta qualifications.
  • Design wiring schematics for our HAST (highly accelerated stress testing) hardware.
  • Documenting all internally developed processes.
  • Collaborating with other engineers to troubleshoot issues that arise.

Must Haves:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering OR 3-year Technologist Diploma in Electronics or similar programming.
  • 3-5 years of previous work experience required.
  • Proficiency in wire bonding processes, including wedge bonding, Cu stud bumping, ball bonding.
  • Experience with HAST Testing of photonic components – CoC.
  • Experience creating test scripts for data collection, analysis etc.
  • Comfortable using test equipment; tunable laser, OSA’s, motorized stages, SMU’s.

Assets

  • Familiarity with wire bond testing and characterization techniques including pull test, shear test and wire bond strength analysis.
  • Cleanroom lab experience is considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve wire bonding issues.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

Location: Ciena Ottawa, Canada – On-site daily

The annual pay range for this position is $71,500 - $114,300.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
