Job Description:

The Senior Artificial Intelligence (AI) Experience Designer is responsible for designing impactful digital Customer and Employee experiences, testing processes to align solutions to user and business needs, and collaborating with business partners to solve challenges specific to AI, automation, data and digital solutions. This role will work closely with product Teams, strategists, designers, and technical resources from the broader Artificial Intelligence and Design Team (AIDT) and Technology and deliver projects for a variety of internal Customers through data visualization, design thinking, content and creative strategy. The Senior AI Experience Designer is a mentor and skilled collaborator, who is ready to create a significant impact by solving Employee and Customer pain points and advance a human-centered design lens across Southwest.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in user research and field observation to discover the “whys” behind problems and identify opportunity areas for designing new solutions
  • Translate research and design insights into visual models and frameworks
  • Conceptualize new designs that are evidence-based and considerate of the holistic ecosystem of an experience
  • Create concept communication tools such as storyboards, user experience journeys, and system maps for use in research, synthesis, workshops and prototype testing
  • Create prototypes and gather concept feedback from a wide range of audiences to assess impact to the user and the business
  • Lead and / or design workshops to support different stages of the design process
  • Collaborate in a team-based environment with leads from multi-disciplinary business units such as Technology or Facilities, and work closely day-to-day with AI Experience Strategists and Artificial Intelligence Delivery teams
  • Lead multi-disciplinary project teams through phases of design
  • Teach, mentor, and coach others on human-centered design methods
  • Identify and understand the dependencies and impacts of projects to the greater Company business or operation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of the Human-Centered Design methodology and associated mindsets, tools, and techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of a relevant design field, such as interaction design, product design, visual design, service design, and/or UX design
  • Intermediate skills in design research practices, with the ability to translate user research into design criteria, business requirements, and solution development
  • Skilled in strategic thinking, problem solving and connecting disparate dots
  • Skilled in using design tools to visualize concepts across a range of fidelities, document system blueprints and journey maps, and build interactive prototypes
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with Customers and diverse levels of Employees, up to and including Executive levels, with an emphasis on compelling storytelling and creating alignment
  • Ability to use Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Microsoft Office Suite

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in areas such as:

    • Human–Centered Design for digital experiences
    • User Research
    • Prototyping
    • Communications
  • Preferred: Experience in digital fabrication, motion design, animation, A/B testing, quantitative user testing experience and copywriting/UX writing experience.

  • Preferred: Experience in creating and facilitating workshops, field research and process mapping.

  • Preferred: Understanding of incorporating business objectives into design outcomes, with a particular emphasis on documenting and capturing value

  • Preferred: Experience designing products or features that incorporate AI functionality, especially Gen AI.

  • Preferred: Experience working in consultative environments/data science Teams with blended teams of designers, strategists, and technologists.

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed for projects

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $112,950 per year to $125,500 per year* d pending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
