Agile Six is a people-first, remote-work company that serves shoulder-to-shoulder with federal agencies to find innovative, human-centered solutions. We build better by putting people first. We are animated by our core values of Purpose, Wholeness, Trust, Self-Management and Inclusion. We deliver our solutions in autonomous teams of self-managed professionals (no managers here!) who genuinely care about each other and the work. We know thatโ€™s our companyโ€™s purpose โ€“ and that we can only achieve it by supporting a culture where people feel valued, self-managed, and love to come to work.

The role

Agile Six is seeking a software engineer to join an agile, cross functional team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in creating AI-enabled solutions to create better services for Veterans and employees, reduce healthcare provider burnout, and improve care quality. Our team will work closely with the VA to identify key challenges, conduct research, and develop AI-driven solutions including machine learning models and AI tools. We will integrate these into existing systems while adhering to strict data security and ethical AI guidelines.

Please note, this position is anticipated, pending contract award response.

Responsibilities

  • Build and integrate AI-enabled applications
  • Create scalable and secure software solutions that meet the technical requirements of stakeholders
  • Automate the building, testing, and deployment of services and applications and other operational processes
  • Leverage emerging technologies and practices around DevOps, cloud services, AI, automation tools, etc. where appropriate in the course of daily work to improve efficiency and/or quality
  • Work as part of a distributed/remote cross-functional team that includes designers, engineers, data scientists, and user researchers to create AI driven solutions
  • Communicate effectively to team members and stakeholders with various levels of technical experience
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, performance, security, and usability of the product, in partnership with our accessibility engineers, UX engineers, and others
  • Support the practice of engineering within the larger company as needed through activities such as:
    • Assisting in outreach, recruitment, and hiring efforts
    • Occasionally participating in or otherwise supporting business development efforts, including code or design challenges, writing or reviewing proposal responses, etc.
    • Participating in communities of practice
  • We expect the responsibilities of this position to shift and grow organically over time, in response to considerations such as the unique strengths and interests of the selected candidate and other team members and an evolving understanding of the delivery environment.

Basic qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience as a software engineer
  • At least 1 year of experience with Python
  • Understanding of common design patterns
  • Experience working in different areas of the software stack and solving a variety of engineering problems throughout their career
  • Familiarity with using CI/CD applications or frameworks to manage code quality assurance and deployment tasks
  • Experience working on an Agile team and demonstrating an Agile mindset
  • Experience in an open-source, collaborative development environment
  • Ability to work independently on high complexity tasks, and to collaborate as it makes sense for the problem and the work
  • Has lived and worked in the United States for 3 out of the last 5 years
  • Some of our clients may request or require travel from time to time. If this is a concern for you, we encourage you to apply and discuss it with us at your initial interview

Additional desired qualifications

  • Experience developing knowledge of complex domain and systems
  • Experience developing and operating systems under an Authority to Operate (ATO)
  • Ability to work across multiple applications, components, languages, and frameworks
  • Familiarity with LLM and associated technologies
  • Familiarity with the US Web Design System
  • Experience working with government agencies
  • You are a U.S. Veteran. As a service-disabled veteran-owned small business, we recognize the transition to civilian life can be tricky, and welcome and encourage Veterans to apply

At Agile Six, we are committed to building teams that represent a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. Even if you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply. Weโ€™re eager to meet people who believe in our mission and who can contribute to our team in a variety of ways.
