Roundel is Target’s Multi-billion-dollar advertising engine, revolutionizing media with the power of first-party data. We’re here to challenge the status quo and build something bigger:

• Launching Roundel Media Studio for self-service advertising.
• Powering ML Audience Segments with our unique guest data.
• Partnering with Google, Meta, Pinterest, and others to push ad performance further.
• Creating shoppable experiences on Target’s premium platforms.
• Elevating campaign reporting and decisioning across DSPs and internal systems.

The Role:

As a Principal Engineer, you will lead by example, setting the vision for our ad tech platforms—DSPs, SSPs, and Ad Servers—and driving their realization. You will determine what we build, what we buy, and how we scale.

This role goes beyond maintaining the status quo. It’s about pioneering new ideas, mentoring top talent, and tackling challenges that have yet to be solved. You will collaborate across teams, driving innovations that not only shape Target but also influence the future of retail media

What You'll Do:

• Design the future of ad tech by building fast, scalable, world-class systems.
• Eliminate performance barriers, optimizing systems for maximum efficiency.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and inspire your team to do the same.
• Lead with vision, guiding teams through ambiguity toward strategic, long-term objectives.
• Collaborate across Target to deliver innovative, game-changing solutions for Roundel.

What We're Looking For:

Qualifications:

• 12+ years of experience building large-scale, distributed applications.
• Expertise in Java, microservices, cloud-native systems, and DevOps pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like Azure or Google Cloud.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• Leadership that inspires teams and moves the needle.
