As a Director, you will play a key role in the delivery of complex technical software solutions for the Surveillance and Regulatory organizations and will be part of discovering new technologies within the FinTech industry.

We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead the Market Systems Surveillance development team in Mumbai. You will oversee the Mumbai software development team and ensure the delivery of sophisticated software solutions for the Nasdaq Market Surveillance System according to the established timelines.

With this position we offer:

Join the development technology organization for Nasdaq Market Surveillance. The main objective for the development team in Mumbai is to build state of the art surveillance software for the Surveillance and Regulatory teams. As our new member, you will manage a group of enthusiastic and experienced team members. Together with your team, you will be responsible for delivery of enhancements and supporting rearchitecture of the enterprise product to new software paradigms.

Your role and responsibilities:

You will lead a software development team in Mumbai and be a member of a cross-functional team across the globe, delivering critical solutions and services to our world-leading Market Surveillance team. You will be responsible for essential development activities and internal customer interaction, often working to build strong relations and trust with your client.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a strong experienced team delivering complex technology solutions to our internal clients. You will work with and learn from subject matter experts, and have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and progress within the development team. Besides working closely with your colleagues in Mumbai, you will also work closely with Nasdaq teams in other countries.

Furthermore, you will: ·

  • Build, manage, and provide leadership to a team of professional staff; perform other talent management and development decisions as needed.
  • Work with all stages of the product life cycle; requirements, design, implementation, testing, release deployment, troubleshooting, maintenance, improvement, capacity planning, performance monitoring, and alert monitoring. ·
  • Develop and maintain software in Nasdaq’s proprietary SMARTS software product (alice programming language) as well as Java. ·
  • Develop and establish functional strategy and tactics to ensure successful completion of work that meets or exceeds client and/or organizational expectations. ·
  • Manage resources and take accountability for the performance and results of multiple related teams. ·
  • Develop departmental/functional plans, including business unit and/or production priorities, to address resource and operational needs and challenges. ·
  • Identify, establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, decision-makers and influencers internally and externally. ·
  • Provide subject matter expertise to clients, team members, colleagues, etc. on projects. ·
  • Participate in both internal and external projects that are broad in scope and closely tied to the organizational strategy. ·
  • Conduct regular status and strategy meetings with internal and external teams to understand risks, priorities, etc. and ensure a successful end result. ·
  • Evaluate current business processes and systems, ensuring cost-savings and risk control. ·
  • Coordinate financial and budget activities for maximum operational efficiency. ·
  • Review team and individual performance data (financial, sales and activity reports) to monitor and measure productivity, goal progress and activity levels. ·
  • Motivate, develop, recruit and retain employees while rewarding and cultivating a culture of high performing teams. ·
  • Provide IT systems strategy, development and/or integration services to clients. ·
  • Determine client organization’s system requirements, and delivers advice on how to design/acquire technology solutions that align to their strategy and processes. Involve others as required. ·
  • Analyse client needs in design of business process requirements; or is the technical lead on project team defining needs. ·
  • xMentor others in their work relative to designing, coding, testing and/or customizing software solutions to meet client requirements. ·
  • Is innovative in their thinking, design and delivery of competitive software solutions. ·
  • Design existing software products or develop new functions, adapt to new hardware, improve performance or enhance product usability for competitive or commercial gain. ·
  • Perform work in various situations or disciplines and of differing levels of complexity (i.e., Architecture, QA and Testing, Network Design and Enterprise Resource Planning Customizations). ·
  • Test, document, and trains client personnel on application software. ·
  • Aware of technology trends and competitive landscape and incorporates into design of solutions. ·
  • Provide a deep domain and industry experience and expertise to design and develop creative solutions.

We expect you to have:

  • At least 10+ years Technical expertise in Java Development.
  • Proficiency of linux commands and utilities including bash scripting.
  • A solid understanding of the technical aspects of software development, such as programming languages, frameworks, tools, methodologies, and best practices. ·
  • Leadership skills: Should be able to inspire, motivate, and empower their team members to achieve their goals and deliver high-quality software products. They should also be able to delegate tasks, resolve conflicts, and foster collaboration and trust within and across teams.
  • People skills: Should be able to build and maintain positive relationships with their team members, as well as with other managers, clients, and partners. They should also be able to understand and address the needs, expectations, and challenges of their team members, as well as to provide them with recognition, feedback, and coaching.
  • Growth mindset: Should be open to learning new things, embracing change, and adapting to different situations. They should also encourage and facilitate the continuous learning and development of their team members, as well as to promote a culture of innovation and experimentation.
  • Strategic vision: Should be able to align their team's work with the broader goals and vision of the organization. They should also be able to plan, prioritize, and execute projects effectively, as well as to measure and evaluate the outcomes and impact of their team's work.
  • A curiosity for the financial industry, with an interest in learning about the markets, products, and services that Nasdaq offers.
  • Education Qualification: At least Masters’ Degree or double degree qualified in a discipline related to Computer Science and our industry; or equivalent work experience.

It would be great if you:

  • Experience in developing financial applications.
  • Knowledge of linux commands and utilities; bash programming
  • Knowledge on Java and Python is preferred. ·
  • Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle is preferred. ·
  • Knowledge of SQL query language is preferred. ·
  • Knowledge of Nasdaq’s proprietary Alice programming language is a plus.
