Engineering Intern

AECOM is seeking a talented and highly motivated Engineering Intern to join the Surface Transportation team in Traverse City, Michigan.

Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning.

This position is expected to begin in May 2025.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

• Builds analytic and design skills.
• Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
• Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
• Performs work according to the agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering focusing on transportation and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or knowledge of Transportation projects.
• Knowledge and experience using CADD and industry-standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation).
• Ability to balance various project and company responsibilities and deadlines, while maintaining professionalism and quality.
• Adaptable and flexible, showing a willingness and ability to take on new projects or areas with or without supervision, as required.
• Team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proficiently communicate both internally and externally to build collaborative relationships.
