About the role

As a Platform Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation and optimization of Transurban's storage infrastructure across all data centers, including our Disaster Recovery site. You will be responsible for maintaining the performance, reliability, and security of all storage systems, delivering a service that meets the needs of the business as defined in our Service Level Agreements.

In this dynamic role, you will proactively manage storage systems, ensuring they operate at peak efficiency through ongoing performance monitoring, lifecycle and vulnerability management, and incident/problem resolution. You'll collaborate with third-party vendors to implement planned changes and provide critical 24/7 on-call support for escalated incidents, ensuring high availability for key business systems.

Your expertise will be vital in maintaining compliance, mitigating risks, and delivering a storage environment that meets the performance and availability demands of the business. As a trusted expert in this essential infrastructure, you'll not only safeguard the integrity of our data but also enable the business to thrive by aligning system performance with strategic objectives.

As our Subject Matter Expert for all Storage related technologies across Transurban, you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Follow procedures, log incidents accurately, prioritize tasks, and keep internal customers/stakeholder(s) informed.
  • Record problems, diagnose issues, and establish workarounds to prevent recurrence.
  • Action requests per SLA, log accurately, and update internal customers/stakeholder(s).
  • Perform daily checks, monitor storage and backups, and complete tasks as expected.
  • Report on storage and performance capacity, and minimize service interruptions.
  • Implement improvements, participate in team activities, and keep documentation current.
  • Monitor and report on service availability, and resolve incidents proactively.
  • Assess impacts, manage risks, follow procedures, and inform stakeholders of changes.

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • Strong customer service ethos and a proven track record of meeting customer requirements.
  • Working technical knowledge of Hitachi Storage technology.
  • Experience with policy, storage, deduplication, and volume pool management.
  • Hands-on experience in large fibre channel SAN environments with multiple directors, servers, and storage frames (HDS, HNAS, Dell, IBM, EMC, etc.).
  • Mastery of fundamental storage concepts such as IOPS, Throughput, RAID technologies, zoning, system cache, and LUN masking.
  • Experience with management and support of large Tier 1/2/3 Disk Storage Subsystems.
  • Solid knowledge of enterprise-class backup technologies, media use and retention strategies, data and system recovery procedures, and backup/recovery best practices.
  • Ability to document and design on-premise and cloud storage strategies.

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

You’ll continue to receive great benefits, including:

  • A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
  • Share offers and insurance benefits
  • Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with disability.
