Purpose

The ideal candidate will provide advanced professional graphic design services in digital and print applications for the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Personally designs print pieces, informational signage, event signage, webpage updates, and other items such as branded apparel and retail merchandise. Supports fundraising campaigns, events, exhibitions, educational materials, and other projects as assigned. Develops, plans, and coordinates graphic design and production work for the organization, including hands-on design work, working with freelancers and agencies on creative development, and other duties as assigned. Serves as the primary brand standards steward and evangelist, insuring brand consistency across all channels. Works closely with Project Manager and Director of Communications and Marketing to prioritize projects and optimize creative work to drive our mission and meet our goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as art director and designer for the Wildflower Center’s digital and print publications, signage, education and fundraising materials, branded merchandise, promotional merchandise and signage, and other design duties as assigned.
  • Serve as the Wildflower Center’s primary creative force for interpretive signage and the overall guest experience in our gardens and trails.
  • Work closely with Project Manager to meet deadlines in a timely, cost-effective and efficient manner. Assist Project Manager with tracking budget and spend on projects.
  • Maintain Center’s photo and graphics archives and provide basic photography services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with graphics design and production.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing across multiple platforms and substrates, in a variety of conditions, under a variety of deadlines.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams.
  • Proficiency in basic graphic illustration.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at a botanic garden or university setting.
  • Master’s degree in related field.

Driving Required

This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm
  • Evening and weekend work may be required.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
