This position is located on the Cornell University Campus in Ithaca, New York. You will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although you may be permitted to perform a portion of your work remotely.

The Division for Budget and Planning is comprised of dedicated individuals organized into several service units to oversee a number of campus-wide operations and services, including the University Budget Office, Institutional Research and Planning, Capital & Space Planning, and the development of academic planning and business intelligence systems. The Division provides proactive tools and information in support of university priorities and functions and Cornell’s land-grant mission. This office carries out these functions with professional, balanced, and timely analyses of data, processes, and choices.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Annual Operating Budget & Consolidations, and in close partnership with the Senior Director for Workforce Planning & Compensation, the Senior Analyst will perform a variety of analyses in support of the University’s position management process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Enhancing the position management framework across the university and ensure the integrity and accuracy of the position management system.
  • In coordination with university leadership, leverage various technology solutions to create a synchronized approach for tracking position numbers throughout the university.
  • Serve as the primary resource to ensure all positions budgeted are appropriately entered in the position management system, ongoing modifications are made, and positions are updated in the appropriate university system.
  • Continuously strengthen reporting efforts to create long term workforce management goals considering financial, labor size, and state position impacts. This will include preparing special analyses and reports to be used by university leadership and/or Board of Trustees to inform institutional practices and communicating sustainable ongoing budgeted position awareness.
  • Collaborating with the Division of Human Resources and campus leadership to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and create position planning trend reports.
  • Support business decisions through the preparation of timely and accurate forecasts, with specific focus on maximizing operational efficiencies, and supporting a streamlined planning process integrating position requests.
  • Staying current on system data structures and advanced analysis, variance modeling and forecasting.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting, or related field with a minimum of five to seven years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Proficient oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to write in a concise, well-thought-out manner.
  • Experience interpreting, analyzing, preparing, and presenting data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of automated financial accounting systems and Microsoft Office software**.**
  • Experience working with ambiguity in a constantly changing environment striving for excellence.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications for the position include:

  • Familiarity with strategic position management planning processes.
  • In depth knowledge of financial system data structures.
  • Knowledge of complex financial modeling tools.
  • Understanding of key financial ratios.
