THE ROLE

For Skytree’s next chapter of growth, we are looking for a Director of Engineering to help bring our product vision to life. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role is critical in our product development efforts. With an overall responsibility for the Engineering function and as a member of Skytree’s management team, you will play an important part in our growth and have a direct impact on the business.

The role oversees a number of engineering teams within the Technology organization, including Mechanical Design, Electronics, Software, Innovation, Assembly and Testing. With five team leads as your direct reports, you are responsible for a team of ca. 20+ dedicated engineers, all skilled in their respective disciplines, as well as external consultants and vendors working on specific projects. Next to these teams in Amsterdam we are setting up our office in Canada (Toronto) where we will further expand the Engineering team.

Requirements

YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT BY

  • Providing leadership and operational direction for all engineering activities.
  • Defining, developing and implementing engineering roadmaps (both short-term and long-term), aligned with Skytree’s broader strategy and growth plan.
  • Ensuring the product development lifecycle is on track and meeting the timeframes required by our New Product Introduction schedule.
  • Leading and inspiring the Engineering team, providing guidance, coaching and support to ensure that team members achieve their goals and objectives, and continuously develop their technical skills.
  • Working closely with the People Team on resolving people issues and improving eNPS scores.
  • Facilitating effective cross-functional collaboration with other internal teams, particularly R&D, in order to achieve wider business objectives and anticipate future engineering needs.
  • Acting as an active contributor to the company strategy as a member of the management team, influencing the overall direction of the business, as well as flagging and addressing opportunities and challenges as they arise.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience (with 2-3 years at a senior / leadership level), especially working with hardware in a similar role, preferably within the climate tech industry.

  • MSc degree in Engineering (e.g. Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Systems, etc.). Ideally, you are a seasoned engineer skilled in one or more of our key verticals, who made a successful transition into a managerial role.

  • Experience with new product development projects involving hardware and embedded software products in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.

  • Proven people management skills, with an ability to inspire, lead and motivate others, and engage stakeholders at all levels.

  • Ability to excel in dynamic environments where there is a high degree of uncertainty.

  • A genuine team player who is motivated to achieve objectives and overcomes challenges through close collaboration and coordination with other teams.

  • Excellent and straightforward communication skills (in English).
