Software System Architect

As part of our continuous growth, we are looking for an experienced Software System Architect to join our PI Innovation Services team.

The Role

• A software system architect has oversight of the design and development of software systems, ensuring they meet the needs of the internal and external stakeholders and align with the overall project and business objectives.
• They are responsible for making high-level design decisions defining the software's structure and guiding the technical team throughout the development process.
• The primary purpose of a software system architect is to provide a strategic vision and technical leadership to ensure the successful delivery of a software project that meets client needs.

The Accountabilities

• System Design: Responsible for creating the architectural blueprint of a software system and breaking it down into components that allow a team to implement the design.
• Software Requirements: As a key stakeholder in the software requirements, ensure alignment with system requirements as a key input, and ensure the software system design can meet the needs of the requirements.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance, leadership and coaching to the development team. Review architectural change requests. Communicate the architecture to the development team.
• System Integration: Responsible for integration planning and execution, ensuring the software modules communicate effectively and that data flows smoothly between them. They consider factors like scalability, performance, security, and reliability during the integration process.
• Quality Assurance: Through continuous review and evaluation, software architects play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of the software system. Define quality attributes, such as performance, scalability, maintainability, and testability, and establish guidelines and best practices to achieve those attributes.
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate Project, Product and Cybersecurity risks associated with the software project. Ensure the architecture is capable of incorporating Software Risk Control Measures. Anticipate potential issues, such as schedule challenges, technical challenges, scalability limitations, or architectural mismatches, and propose solutions or alternative approaches. Consider approaches for containing volatility.
• Collaboration and Communication: Cross-functional communication is a key need and Software Architects work closely with stakeholders, including business managers, product owners, project managers, team leads, UX / screen designers and development teams, to understand requirements, gather feedback, and ensure alignment between technical decisions and business goals. They also communicate the architectural vision, design decisions, and technical concepts to various stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
• High-level reporting of progress: Highlight architecture/design changes, new features, or other issues that may impact long-term progress. Assess and articulate whether the overall software plan is on-track.
• Continuous Improvement through assessing new technology. Feed back features and enhancements into re-use frameworks.

The Typical Experiences

• Collaboration and Communication: Client and cross-functional communication is a key requirement. Software System Architect will work closely with stakeholders, including clients, business managers, product owners, project managers, team leads, UX / screen designers and development teams, to understand requirements, gather feedback, and ensure alignment between technical decisions and business goals. They also communicate the architectural vision, design decisions, and technical concepts to various stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
• Typically has a minimum of 15+ years software development in various industries including 3 years of architecture experience
• Experience in containerisation, DevOps; AWS, Azure
• Experience integrating hardware and software

Plus points if you have

• Experience developing software for medical devices
• Compliance with international quality standards, including knowledge in IEC62304, IEC62366, ISO13485, ISO14971
