Summary:

The Data Engineer will be a key contributor to Dexcom’s Customer Advocacy’s Post Market Surveillance Data Analytics. You will be part of the team that works to track and understand product performance in the field by implementing methods to improve data reliability and data quality.

Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributor
Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for Customer Advocacy and product enhancement. Develops and codes software programs, automated processes to cleanse, transform, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) of data from a wide variety of data sources using DBT, SQL, Python, Snowflake and Google Cloud Platform technologies.
  • Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our products
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong SQL programming skills.
  • Experience working with relational databases and/or distributed computing platforms, and their query interfaces, such as SQL, Snowflake, and GCP BigQuery.
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.
  • Experience with GitHub or similar version control software.
  • A team player, capable of conducting independent research, motivated by hard technical challenges.
  • Results-driven, self-motivated, self-starter.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a proven ability to translate complex methodologies and analytical results to business insights.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with GCP DataProc, Java/Spark.
  • Experience working with data pipelines in a serverless environment (DBT, GCP Data Flow and Cloud Composer).
  • Experience with app dev in a serverless environment.
  • Experience working with relational SQL and NoSQL databases. (BigQuery, Postgres, snowflake)
  • Experience working for a regulated medical device or healthcare company.
  • Experience working with extremely large data sets.
  • Experience with system integrations.

Education/Experience:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher from a reputed university in engineering, IT, economics, math, statistics, science, or other related fields in quantitative or analytical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of previous experience.
