About the Role
The Principal Database Automation Engineer is responsible for all of DriveWealth’s database platforms, ensuring high levels of data availability and performance. This hands-on role is responsible for advancing and improving the backbone of DriveWealth through automation, monitoring, maintaining, and advancing our database systems. The ideal candidate is a database expert with knowledge of multiple databases: Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, and Babelfish for Aurora PostgreSQL among other platforms. We seek someone who thrives on solving and scaling database challenges and thus has exceptional attention to detail and values simplicity over complexity - both in design and communication.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain databases to ensure high levels of data availability and performance.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate the remediation of recurring issues to improve the overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
- Ensure database capacities are available to meet our scaling projections.
- Set and maintain database standards.
- Manage database access.
- Performance tuning of database systems.
- Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
- Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
- Provide expert guidance to our architecture teams as they build applications using various databases.
- Create automation for repeating database tasks.
- Be available for on-call support as needed.
What You’ll Need
- At least 5+ years’ experience in a principal DBA role with at least 15 years of overall IT experience.
- Proven experience with automation and scripting technologies especially using Infrastructure-as-code (IAC) using Terraform.
- Strong command of SSIS, SSRS, SQL, and SQL server tools and TSQL development.
- Strong experience with AWS RDS platforms like Babelfish and Aurora.
- Expert knowledge of database security, storage, partitioning, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Applicant Resiliency, and Security
- Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling
- Python/ PowerShell/ Unix shell scripting skills
- Experience working with AWS cloud tech, storage, cloud security, and governance tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Experience with a 24x7, highly-available architecture.
