Department Overview

We are aiming for a dramatic evolution to a site that allows users to experience Rakuten's theme of “Shopping is Entertainment” while being functional. To achieve this within the Commerce Company (EC business centered on Rakuten Ichiba) we are looking to recruit front-end engineers to improve the UI of Rakuten Ichiba and related service sites as well as build pages for projects. As a team characteristic, the developer team is divided into two roles, in which you can make use of and strengthen your own strengths.

Visual Composer
Be maintainable & effective. More Attractive.

Focused mainly on markup language, produce effective output based on maintainability and efficiency.
Application Composer
Translate data into consistent UI.

Provide high-performance UI by making full use of libraries and frameworks such as React and Vue.js.

Members often support or assume other roles that require them to collaborate with the development department (the department to which the back-end engineer belongs) and conduct code reviews which provides them with a chance to not only strengthen their main role but also to expand other skills.

In consideration of further expansion of the organization, as well as the recent development of technology, we are also recruiting technical directors. We are also accepting applications from those who are interested in bridging business and engineering together by improving the development flow using CI, designing and proposing technical specifications in cooperation with the development department, and managing projects including assignment of optimal resources.

Position Details

Visual Composer

- Designing reusable components with scalability in mind. Creation of style guides.
- Proposal and implementation of interactions that contribute to improving the customer's buying experience.

- Skill sharing and training instructor within the department.
- Determination of specifications and development schedule.
Application Composer

- Determining the architecture of the application (front end)

- Constructing a development environment using Webpack, Docker, etc.

- Formulation of Web API specifications in cooperation with back-end engineers

- Improvement of business flow by automation

- R&D in the front-end field

- Technical support for directors

- Engineer task management for large projects

- Determination of specifications and development schedule.

Mandatory Qualifications:

Experience and understanding of more than two of the following.

- 3 or more years of experience in front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)

- Experience in development using meta-language such as Sass

- Experience in building tools (Webpack, gulp, etc.) (at least one type)

- Code version control using Git

- Deep understanding of or strong interest in front-end technical specifications

Desired Qualifications:

- Practical experience using libraries and frameworks such as React and Vue.js.

- Development experience of a design system

- Experience as a technical director

TOEIC Score exceeding 800 (or similar level of English ability) or a University Degree earned in an English-speaking country
