Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for an Assistant Director of the Academic Resource Center on the Macon, Georgia campus. This position will help to foster the academic growth and success of Mercer University students.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director will share duties in coordinating the programs of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) and in training, supervising, and evaluating student assistants as assigned by the Director. This position will supervise the peer tutoring program on the Macon campus, develop College Study Skills curriculum and conduct courses, and support the overall ARC program by providing professional presentations to various audiences, advising on technology resources, and producing administrative reports and statistics.

Qualifications:

A master's degree in English, Education, Mathematics, or other closely-related field and one year of experience to include administrative and supervisory experience (hiring, training, managing, etc.) are required. Prior experience with application of instructional technology is also required.

Success Factors: Ability to relate to and motivate learners at all levels. Ability to design a clear instructional outline and then implement the outline in both online and traditional classroom formats.

Candidates who have experience developing marketing communications pieces and applying web-based learning tools; undergraduate concentration (major or minor) in mathematics or science, ESL or foreign language instructional experience; and/or database and website implementation experience are highly desirable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiarity with instructional techniques appropriate to the sciences and liberal arts – train tutors and counsel students for academic success across the undergraduate curriculum;

  • Strong verbal and writing skills – positively represent ARC services and staff by modeling adherence to high academic standards in all activities and products;

  • Competency in using and training users on software tools including Microsoft Office suite – support ARC computer lab, staff and students working in the ARC and develop presentations;

  • Competency administering database applications and producing statistical charts and reports – produce administrative reports and statistics;

  • Ability to welcome new student clients, put them at ease and provide academic counseling – ensure success of College Study Skills course and facilitate individual students’ successes;

  • Ability to conduct professional presentations on campus to a wide variety of audiences and to conduct peer sessions at professional gatherings – serve as central resource for study skills instruction for all University departments and as a professional representative of the ARC both inside and outside the University;

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team – balance individual responsibilities for teaching classes with ARC team objectives.
