Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a Test Engineer - Drivetrain for our Blyth site, to facilitate the running and development of all aspects of the test process in our world leading wind turbine testing facilities.

What will I do?

  • Test the world’s largest wind turbines in our new 23MW drivetrain facility
  • Help turbine manufacturers accelerate their technology development in the UK with reduced risk and enhanced reliability
  • Create test programs and novel testing techniques to support industry deliver technology to the renewable sector.
  • Carry out testing on wind turbines, generators, convertors, transformers, batteries, fuel cells and more.
  • Create and apply testing techniques.
  • Engage in technical discussions with clients about test methods and load cases.
  • Simulate and optimize testing facilities and test pieces performance before physical testing.
  • Carry out post test data analysis and generate technical test reports.
  • Drive improvements in the testing facility and process.
  • Ensure compliance with QHSE regulations and standards.
  • Provide guidance to staff involved in the testing process.
  • Support in the development of new testing capabilities at OREC to support the future needs of the renewable energy sector.

What are we looking for?

  • Expertise in electrical, power, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as MATLAB / Simulink, PLECS, or PSIM.
  • Experience of using the software SCADA, Diadem and LABView would be beneficial.
  • Experience in operating testing facilities and performing electrical power testing would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and working to IEC renewable energy standards would be beneficial.
  • An understanding of instrumentation and calibration would be beneficial.
  • A clear and confident communicator.
  • Embraces and drives continuous improvements.
  • Collaborative worker and strong team player.
  • Takes a methodical and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • An Engineering Degree, ideally in Electrical Engineering.

  • Salary between £28,000 and £38,000, depending on experience
