Chief of Staff

What we are looking for

We are looking for a Chief of Staff who will work closely with the General Partners and teams across the firm from day-to-day operations, firm-building, and special projects. You will also have exposure to support the investment analysis process and portfolio support function in collaboration with the whole team – currently based in Nairobi, Cairo, Johannesburg, and London. This role is vital in serving as a strategic partner and supporting the firm across locations to enhance organizational performance.

What does the job involve

• Collaborate cross-functionally with other team members to drive projects to completion, with a “no task too big or too small” demeanor. (We value a mix of incisive thinking, hustle, humility, humour, creativity, proactivity, emotional intelligence, drive, and quality).
• Provide leverage to the Managing Partner and be the “right-hand” ensuring that we back and effectively support Africa’s very best founders, and that we are well-prepared and follow through on our most important commitments and relationships.
• Special Projects and Project Management: Lead and manage high-impact special projects across various functions within the firm and with key stakeholders outside of the firm.
• Operations: Work closely across the firm and with fund administration team to support timely and efficient reporting, workflows, systems, and best practices as we scale our operations.
• Investment and Portfolio Support: Supporting Partners and investment team in evaluating and executing new investments, and providing a robust portfolio support function including strategic planning, operational improvements, and growth initiatives.
• Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth market research to support investment decisions and strategic planning, and prepare memos with insights and recommendations to the team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ of relevant experience (Management Consulting, Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, Advisory or Investment Banking), or within an operating role at a VC-backed tech company.
• Experience in management consulting, operations, or finance with material exposure to privately held companies and management teams in Africa and exposure to international markets and global views of excellence.
• Demonstrated operational excellence, and a commitment to using business, finance, and technology to create lasting impact and commercial value in Africa.
• Strong research, quantitative, and analytical skills balanced with high levels of social and emotional intelligence.
• Track-record of thriving in an unstructured environment through resourcefulness, high efficiency, judgment, and work ethic. Comfortable executing with minimal direction.
• You thrive in fast-paced and entrepreneurial environments, and you bring strategic-thinking, detail-orientation, and an analytical rigour in your approach and working style.
• Outstanding and concise written and verbal communication skills to successfully collaborate with executive-level operators.
• Proactive self-starter with a high sense of urgency, balanced with strong attention to detail quality orientation and exceptional organizational skills.
• Positive, open team player and experienced leader who has loads of energy, and relishes a fast-paced and demanding environment with constant learning and uncapped growth.
