Solutions Architect

AECOM has a position available for a Lead Microgrid Solution Architect to join the Engineering Center of Excellence within the Energy practice supporting clean energy initiatives. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, overhead and underground transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), renewable generation (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), power distribution (overhead and underground power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, etc.).

We are looking for an up-and-coming leader with a technical diverse background in distributed energy solutions to provide technically excellent results for our clients as well as promote our skills to new clients by directly supporting sales and business development.

The responsibilities for the position include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Lead by example in engineering execution functioning as technical lead on all size distributed energy resources projects
  • Perform engineering calculations to support and direct construction deliverables (specifications, reports, drawings)
  • Originate and support the development of document designs/drawings, sequence of operations, equipment specifications, system approval test procedures, and other system-related information for feasibility through detailed design project scopes
  • Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
  • Evaluates the feasibility of installing microgrid systems at new or existing client facilities considering the physical and electrical infrastructure constraints present at each site
  • Produces conceptual designs that can incorporate a variety of energy resources, including renewables, thermal generation and battery storage, in order to meet financial, resilience and/or environmental goals for each project
  • Develops financial models of microgrid revenue generation to optimize sizing of generation and energy storage capacity
  • Performs power system studies to validate equipment ratings and verify reliable operation of the microgrid during grid-tied and islanded system operation
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline technical leads to integrate mechanical energy generation assets and complete the LV/MV wiring and power designs for full spectrum distributed energy client solutions
  • Participating in and presenting engineering work at client meetings including those requiring occasional travel
  • Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets for engineering work activities
  • Supporting company business development activities as it relates to renewable and decentralized energy projects
