The Crown Estate is seeking a talented Data Solution Architect to unlock the latent value in our data and create innovative solutions that meet the needs of our business while safeguarding our assets.

Purpose of the Role:

As a Data Solution Architect at The Crown Estate, you will be at the forefront of architecting data solutions that enable analysis, data science, and reporting across our organisation. You will work closely with business owners and colleagues across the data and digital teams to ensure the end-to-end definition and implementation of use cases as part of our overall target architecture and data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

Architect and Design Solutions:

  • Develop data and analytics solutions tailored to meet end users' needs.
  • Collaborate within a matrix, agile team to design and deliver iterative solutions.
  • Work with colleagues to implement Master and Meta Data Management processes and capabilities.
  • Embed Data Quality management within solutions.
  • Build out an Enterprise Data Model.
  • Map and model data flows in alignment with business processes and systems.

Frameworks and Standards:

  • Define frameworks, principles, and processes for data solution architecture.
  • Guide both Digital and third-party data teams to adhere to The Crown Estate’s data architecture standards.
  • Create and maintain relevant artefacts and documentation.
  • Contribute to and evolve the architecture continuously.

Technical Excellence:

  • Maintain high standards in solution design and coding.
  • Drive automation in solution delivery.
  • Optimise ways of working for speed, integrity, and quality.
  • Help ensure DevOps and Agile principles are integral to the team ethos.
  • Prioritise security in all code writing efforts.

Data Discovery and Compliance:

  • Conduct comprehensive data discovery to identify pain points, business and technical requirements.
  • Design solutions compliant with GDPR and data retention policies.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

Technical Proficiency:

  • Expert in defining and architecting data solutions in an Azure environment.
  • Proficient with the full Microsoft Azure stack and tools like GitHub and Jenkins.
  • Skilled in Master and Meta Data Management solutions, data tagging, and classification.
  • Experienced in conceptual and logical data modelling and industry-standard data models, using tools like Erwin.
  • Proficient in coding languages such as SQL, Python, Spark, PySpark.
  • Familiar with developing data ecosystems with a Lakehouse style architecture.

Frameworks and Methodologies:

  • Understanding of TOGAF and other architecture frameworks.
  • Experience in agile, matrix teams using Scrum and Kanban.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML pipelines, workflows, and productionising data science solutions.
  • Security and Compliance: Expertise in authentication, access controls, and identity management technology.
  • Skilled in designing solutions with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and utilising Key Vaults.

DevOps and Continuous Integration:

  • Experienced in modern DevOps methodologies and continuous integration, ideally with Azure DevOps and CI/CD.
  • Knowledge in developing Azure Build Pipelines using tools such as Terraform or BICEP.

  • Continuous Improvement: Lead and stay current with industry best practices, trends, and compliance requirements.
  • Communication: Great interpersonal skills, particularly under pressure.
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics in a clear, accessible manner.
  • Technology and Data Expertise: Hands-on experience in developing and implementing high-quality technology solutions in a matrixed organisation.
  • Customer Excellence: Commitment to continuous improvement and a willingness to challenge established thinking.
  • Collaboration: Excellent team player with the ability to influence and drive alignment across stakeholders and partners.
