  • Responsible for the design and implementation of large data communications or telecommunications networks. Plan and monitor the installation of communications circuits.
  • Manage and monitor local area networks and associated equipment (e.g., bridges, routers, modem pools, and gateways). Conduct short and long-term plans to meet communications requirements.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of Local Area Network (LAN) / Wide Area Network (WAN) using hub switching and router technology. Perform hardware/software analyses to provide comparative data of performance characteristics and suitability within the existing systems environment.
  • Prepare tradeoff studies and evaluations for vendor equipment. Generate network monitoring/performance report, for LAN/WAN utilization studies.
  • Recommend network design changes/enhancements for improved system availability and performance.

Requirements

Preferred Experience:
At least five (5) years of experience in the following technical areas:

  • Senior level experience working in a network and IT systems environment, including protocols (TCP/IP), equipment and services (DNS).
  • Planning, designing, implementation, and analyzing data or telecommunications networks.
  • Network analysis/management tools and techniques.
  • IT technology and long distance and local carrier management.
  • Managing Personal Computers (PCs) in a client/server environment.

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related scientific or technical disciplines. If applicable, shall be certified as a network engineer for the specific network operating system as defined in the State task request. The certification criteria are determined by the network operating system vendor.
  • Nine (9) years of experience in a computer-related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive experience in planning, designing, implementing, and analyzing data or telecommunications networks.
