Position Summary

The technical training specialist will be responsible for the design and development of the training needed to support implementation and change management and may also work with other teams (service desk and desktop support).

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops culturally sensitive and situation-appropriate training materials – print and multi-media - to help achieve program implementation and change management goals, in collaboration with the change management team and program consultants.
  • Conducts needs analysis. Participates in the evaluation of training needs and recommend effective solutions to achieve successful adoption across a wide and varied environment. Solutions may include job aids, in-system guidance, on-demand online training, multimedia resources, instructor led trainings, visual guides, hybrid sessions, workshops, or lab hours, and should include an awareness of accessibility standards, actionable metrics, and ongoing operational needs.
  • Collaborates effectively with Subject Matter Experts, the program team, the Training Lead and implementation partners to ensure deliverables are timely, and risks are identified and communicated appropriately.
  • Develops, tests, implements, and presents training in multiple formats such as case scenarios, simulations, eLearning, etc. following prescribed strategies and methods.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field with five or more years of experience in instructional design, especially in support of high-impact initiatives in large, complex environments.
  • Experience working in higher education or academic medicine is a plus, as is consulting/agency experience.
  • Creative, curious, and strategic thinker who possesses a confident style, coupled with sensitivity, flexibility, and sense of humor. Good judgment, discretion, tact and diplomacy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, matrix, and consensus-driven environment.
  • Willingness and ability to embrace change and to adapt approaches in a timely way.
  • Superior writing and presentation skills.
  • Sensitivity to visual aesthetics.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Good understanding of project management, and an ability to work to deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Experience with screen capture software such as Camtasia.
  • Experience with developing standards-compliant, interactive online learning using software such as Captivate.
  • Experience in developing video/multimedia training materials
  • Experience with learning management systems, such as Saba or Canvass.
  • Experience and expertise in developing and implementing a range of training methods, modes, and techniques.
  • Workday experience preferred, but not necessary.
  • Certification such as ASTD (American Society for Training and Development) or Certified Online Training Facilitator.
  • Experience providing quality customer service.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (Instructional Technology, Communications or Education) and at least two years of relevant experience (analyzing business processes, applying instructional design methods, developing training and curricula, user documentation and associated communications) in an enterprise environment and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range

$57,300.00 - $97,700.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
