The team at Panametrics, a Baker Hughes business, designs and manufactures a range of sensors and sensing instrumentation that that are utilised in a vast array of market segments. Panametrics is looking for a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to work closely with our Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams to design, prototype, validate, and certify next-generation industrial sensing equipment. A successful applicant would lead the architecture design and development of multi-threaded, multi-process software architectures, prioritizing efficiency, and reuse to ensure the development of robust products that can operate in highly variable industrial environments and support the sustaining of our legacy products lines through their later life cycle stages.

As a Staff Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the execution of product design, validation, and certification of industrial grade embedded systems.
  • Translating customer needs to system level requirements in a collaborative process with Product Specialists, Product Managers, and other peers throughout the organization.
  • Performing cross platform development of C/C++ code while maintaining code quality through best practices and code quality automation.
  • Developing system architectures for multi-channel data acquisition and signal processing products.
  • Supporting sustaining activities across a broad product portfolio.
  • Leading the creation and implementation of process-driven design decisions (CPO; NPI and NTI; Operations, Sales, and Service support).

Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Have 10+ years’ experience with architect design, development, and verification of industrial products.
  • Have 6+ years’ experience with developing C/C++ embedded applications for at least with one of the following embedded operating systems on ARM targets:
    • Linux
    • QNX Neutrino
    • Micrium μC/OS
  • Have demonstrated experience in the bring-up of processors in custom hardware configurations.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in development and low-level debugging strategies for application code, hardware abstraction layers, and driver modules.
  • Possess a holistic understanding of cybersecurity strategies for industrial devices and experience architecting and implementing solutions based on them.
  • Possess detailed familiarity with the OSI model and understanding of the implementation of wired and wireless stacks utilizing it.
  • Be capable of concise and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Be an effective communicator within technical and non-technical environments.
  • Have demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to perform in a team environment, across functions, and with customer and suppliers.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise in designing with embedded targets ranging from 8 to 32-bits including ARM/ARM Cortex, TI MSP430, and ST Micro devices with external SDRAM, flash, and peripherals
  • Demonstrated design expertise in multi-threaded process design
  • Experience with the Zynq Ultrascale+ MPSoC architecture, design workflow, Xilinx’s SDK, and Peta Linux tools
  • Hands-on experience with tools source control tools like Git, and SVN
  • Experience with communication protocols including RS232, RS485, I2C, SPI, CANbus, and Ethernet.
  • Experience with industrial communications protocols like HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Modbus or Profibus
  • Experience with designing to functional safety standards such as IEC61508 (SIL)
  • Experience with the design of industrial sensors and sensing system interfaces in the ultrasonic flowmetering, and trace gas/moisture detection spaces
