Job Description & Summary

A career in our Actuarial Life Services practice, within Actuarial Services, will provide you with the opportunity to contribute general insurance advice and consulting services to clients such as insurers, banks, regulators, and third party administrators. You’ll provide advice covering solvency, economic capital, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, company restructuring and risk control, financial modelling, underwriting, new legislation, and the efficiency of claims or reporting processes. Simply put, you might help analyse the impact that new regulation will have on an insurance company’s balance sheet or you could be revising businesses’ projections and making sure they have adequate reserves.

Our team helps insurers address new financial reporting requirements by assessing the financial and business impacts of regulations, building implementation plans, and implementing relevant requirements, particularly across areas of financial reporting change.

Your tasks

  • You contribute to the development, validation, and enhancement of methods and tools used for quantifying risks associated with Natural Catastrophes and Climate Change (i.e. transition, physical risk)
  • You deliver a wide range of concurrent and multidisciplinary advisory assignments, thereby interacting with clients and delivering high quality climate or Nat Cat risk modeling support to our banking, insurance and/or corporate clients as part of wider ESG or validation engagements
  • You leverage knowledge of PwC’s climate risk methodologies as well as broader service offerings in actuarial and/or risk modelling to provide sustainable outcomes to our clients
  • You will script and code to perform analyses to organize, visualize, and interpret complex datasets as well as helping to refine our current Nat Cat and Climate modelling approaches
  • You work closely with our actuaries and/or quants and you will have the opportunity to work on non-/financial institutions and/or Nat Cat mandates in close cooperation with our ESG expert group
  • You provide technical knowledge, and you continuously develop your soft skills with on- and off-the-job training
  • You will prepare customized presentation material to meet the need of various stakeholders, including clients, team members, and senior management.
  • You will work in a diversified international team and receive regular coaching and training from colleagues and supervisors.

Your profile

  • You hold a MSc or PhD university graduate or your are about to finish your degree in Natural Catastrophe, Environmental, Climate, Natural Sciences, or closely related fields such as actuarial, or data science
  • You have preferably minimum 1 - 3 years’ experience working in a Nat Cat, climate risk, actuarial (P&C) or financial modelling role, ideally with a financial or professional services firm or first practical experience with re-/insurers or banks
  • You have a view on the risks faced by organizations due to climate change and/or Nat Cat risks and how they can be potentially integrated into their risk management frameworks
  • You are able to use your programming skills (e.g. R, Python, SQL, etc.) to perform data analysis or implement scientific models regarding Natural Catastrophes and Climate change to translate these into actual risk assessments and numerical quantifications. Experience of Nat Cat software or climate model development (e.g. flood or other atmospheric perils) is a plus
  • You feel comfortable to develop interactive dashboards to visualize information for communication to stakeholders. The knowledge of Power BI or similar tools is a plus.
  • You have a client- and team-oriented mindset, great communication skills, and you foster innovative solutions to support emerging topics such as climate risk and/or Nat Cat initiatives such as parametric insurance.
  • Interest in pursuing a qualification as climate modeler, actuary, quantitative analyst or Cat modeler is an advantage
  • You are fluent in English and/or German, and you have a good ability to communicate complex topics to diverse stakeholders. French is an additional advantage
