About the opportunity

The Senior Manager, Operational Risk, Resilience and Compliance leads the team that manages the development, ongoing review and continuous improvement of Central Operations Services (COS) risk, resilience and compliance capabilities. This role will enable the goals of the Risk Services team and the broader Central Operations Services to be translated into business activities, effectively allocating required resources, measuring performance, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, building a positive risk and compliance culture and ensuring decisions are risk based and aligned with university risk appetite.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • lead the development, implementation and ongoing review of the holistic operational risk profile for the Central Operations Services (COS) business unit, aligned with enterprise risk appetite and tolerance statements, and manage risk and compliance programs for continuous improvement
  • collaborate with divisional areas and central risk and compliance teams to ensure modifications to the Enterprise Risk and Compliance Frameworks, including relevant policies or legislative changes are incorporated into business processes
  • provide oversight and direction for COS WHS compliance and safety management practices ensuring programs and assurance activities are delivered on time in line with business unit commitments and safety management system requirements
  • ensure work is undertaken in accordance with the organisation’s values, enabling a cohesive and positive working environment.

About you

  • experience in applying business resilience and risk assessment techniques in complex industries
  • excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to negotiate and influence outcomes
  • competence and experience in risk management, including the management of workplace health and safety is an important consideration
  • extensive experience providing strong and adaptable leadership and direction to a diverse team including people management, managing staff performance and development
  • experience with managing organisational compliance and risk and applying policy and procedures in a customer focussed environment
  • managing risk based approach to business plans.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
