What you will do

The Supplier Quality Engineer supports and enables the monitoring, evaluation, fulfillment, training and selection of suppliers across multiple Product Business Units (PBU’s) and the Field organisation within Johnson Controls. This includes suppliers who provide direct material to plants, branded third party product (OEM/ODM) or material with one of the Johnson Controls brand names, or third-party materials to the Field business., branded third party material with one of the Johnson Controls brand names, or third party materials to the Field business. You will support and drive the development of new processes and best practices for the Field installation and services organisation to deliver best in class supplier performance and associated customer satisfaction. This role is onsite and based in Plano, TX.

You will also work cross functionally and globally to ensure processes are in place to incorporate failure prevention and mitigation in New Product Introduction (NPI) related to supplier provided components, and support NPI through coordination of the supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). You will monitor incoming supplier quality performance, and support Root Cause analysis and CAPA implementation for Critical and Escalated quality and delivery issues within the supply base, by applying standard quality engineering principles and techniques.

How you will do it

  • Travel to supplier locations to conduct audits/assessments and to address critical issues (travel requirement up to 50%, including international), and/or complete the assessments remotely where necessary.
  • Develops and mentors Supplier Quality Engineers who work closely with Products Quality personnel and have direct interface with Suppliers and their functional leadership.
  • Develops programs and leads global teams of quality professionals to monitor supplier performance based upon multiple metrics such as Supplier DPPM, Supplier Cost Recovery, Supplier Delivery, and Supplier Warranty issues.
  • Work remotely with the JCI locations/ Branches to identify and address significant supplier quality issues.
  • Identifies & works with key suppliers to implement a Supplier Quality Improvement Roadmap that will meet Johnson Controls expectations and overall supplier sustainability criteria.
  • Support product engineering teams and the resolution of top warranty issues, and in the application of advanced statistical analysis, problem solving techniques and Quality tools.
  • Facilitate utilization of APQP with manufacturing and engineering organizations supporting supplier related activities for new product launch. Activities include DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan development, capacity run at rates, and other activities to accomplish successful PPAP.
  • Act as a liaison between Procurement and Product group leadership to support supplier warranty and quality initiatives including cost recovery.
  • Acts and facilitates as a Quality subject expert and conducts training of the quality tools as required through the Procurement Academy, or scheduled supplier training events.
  • Reviews monthly and annually the quality issues of the top 5 global suppliers and the top 5 suppliers within the assigned Products teams which relates to the highest reject quality, highest # of issues, and delivery issues. Communicates, Managers the suppliers that are required to attend a Management Quality Review (MQR). Recommends, schedules through Procurement Directors or Category
    Coordinates with Procurement, Operations, Materials/Fulfillmentand Engineering to assure that materials are on site in a timely manner to facilitate speedy and accurate parts availability to meet customer demands.
  • To implememnt the Supplier training program across the branches to support PPAP project.
  • Support on Customer warranty – Analysis (Root cause, 8D request, sorting) interaction with legal department (contract review)
  • Weekly follow up with commodity managers on SOA request/ completion.
  • Actively participating & mentoring Others (procurement, engineering,) on Improvement projects with high impact (Cost reduction, transactional issues, business continuity)

What we look for

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Management or equivalent experience in Manufacturing.
  • Supplier Quality or Supply Chain knowledge required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or field service environment.
  • Up to approximately 50% travel, including international travel.

Preferred

  • DMAIC (Blackbelt/Greenbelt) training, Lean manufacturing experience, problem solving training (Kepner Tregoe, 8D or Shainin), strong facilitation skills, working knowledge of APQP techniques.
  • AQC CQE certification.
