Sales, Retail Overview

With a very large portfolio of products, ranging from on-line payments to omnichannel offer management and from tax-free to payment at the point of sale, Planet helps Merchants delivering better payments experiences for customers through our products and services, in a world where digital and physical experiences are coming together.

Our Retail Sales team comprises of 150 employees globally, who, with the acquisition of Datatrans and Proximis, are just getting started to provide a real feel good, connected experience at world's most well-known Retailers.

We are seeking diverse, highly motivated and skilled experts in payments, with a strong passion for acquiring new customers and growing existing ones.

Role Overview

This is a 100% new business sales role with primary focus on building strong relationships with decision makers in Retailers and merchants with strong international footfall. The goal is to secure new customers to our core suite of products and services within Italy. The role holder will work closely with the Sales Director, Cluster Lead, Key and Global Account Managers, Sales Support, Marketing, Product, Operations and wider teams to sell our international acquiring solutions to these new customers.

What you will do:

  • Lead the review and segmentation of the acquiring opportunities in the Retail Sector and the building of a commercial business case to support investment in this sector.
  • Build an annual Sales Development plan. Develop and maintain a pipeline of business opportunities.
  • Achieve and exceed quarterly and annual new business sales targets.
  • Maximise revenue opportunities and ensure business is profitable.
  • Manage the customer relationship until they are handled to an Account Manager.
  • React to customer / partners queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Work with supporting departments to resolve to a satisfactory standard.
  • Accurately complete sales documentation which supports the sale of services that include quotations, proposals and tenders.
  • Lead on the creation and delivery of new business presentations with customers.
  • Make sure that the CRM system is kept updated with customer and opportunity information in line with the KPI’s set by the manager.
  • Provide information to manager and other internal individuals / departments in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work and contribute within the broader sales team, creating and promoting ideas to assist colleagues in the achievement of set objectives.
  • Work professionally, effectively and constructively to promote the company.
  • Carry out any additional duties which would be deemed by the manager and company to be in the best interest of the company and its customers.

Who you are:

  • Must have proven experience in new business sales, preferably within the merchant acquiring or related payments Industry.
  • Must have previous sales experience to selling to retail operations/information technology/finance and an understanding of retail technology.
  • Proven knowledge of current sales techniques and strong working knowledge of developing a sales pipeline and sales development plan.
  • Proven track record in managing and the delivery of new business targets
  • A knowledge of the Italian Retail industry or IT solutions within Retail sector would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Card Acquiring, DCC, retail payment solutions or Retail EPOS systems would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the card schemes pricing models and experience of negotiating merchant acquiring agreements with retailers.
  • Knowledge of card scheme rules as they affect the sale of merchant acquiring services.
  • Proven interpersonal and networking skills ideally in a similar sales environment
  • Proven communication and team working skills
  • Proven organizational, planning and sales preparation skills.
  • Working knowledge of CRM systems (Salesforce or similar)
  • Excellent IT skills (inc. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook) and other Corporate IT systems
  • High level of English and Italian: written and spoken.
  • Experience in a complex international matrix organization

  • Change management: Must enjoy working in a fast growing and changing Company. Flexibility is essential
