PDCI is seeking an Associate Director, Launch and Access Strategies to support the Strategic Consulting Pillar at PDCI. The successful candidate will provide seasoned expert input on a variety of market access projects for externally facing client projects; this person will be a central member of the team responsible for building client relationships and communicating PDCI expertise and insights to an external audience.

Role Overview:

The Associate Director, Launch and Access Strategies leads a team of Market Access professionals working to distill complex issues into streamlined market and policy insights, launch strategies, and negotiations leadership for the biopharmaceutical industry. This role requires an extensive and in-depth strategic understanding of Canadian biopharmaceutical market access: what it takes to launch new products into the market, and to negotiate and secure reimbursement across public and private markets.

The successful candidate will bring to PDCI a strong business acumen, deep knowledge of pharmaceutical market access, broad insights into pharmaceutical and health policy, and extensive experience negotiating product listing agreements with public and private drug programs.

The Associate Director will work cross-functionally with other members of the PDCI team and with members of the broader Biopharma and Payer Solutions (BPS) Business Unit within McKesson. Focused on delivering the highest quality market insights, and strategies for clients, the Associate Director will be very comfortable leading direct reports and project teams, working directly with and advising clients, speaking and presenting publicly, and building innovative solutions for launching new medicines in Canada.

Role Responsibilities

Leading a team of market access professionals, the Associate Director will be responsible for building and delivering comprehensive market access strategies for clients looking to launch new biopharmaceutical products in Canada. Primary accountabilities include,

  • Leading PDCI’s market access assessments, policy and advocacy advisory services accountable for
  • Developing and delivering market entry strategies for client product launches
  • Providing deep strategic insights into market access trends, emerging issues, and opportunities for optimal product reimbursement
  • Providing clients and team members with clear insights into complex market access trends
  • Assessing, mapping and advising on clients’ effective advocacy plans with external stakeholders.
  • Leading strategic guidance and thought leadership on pharmaceutical and related policies affecting clients and the broader life sciences sector.
  • This includes accountability for policy research and publications, external presentations, communications and knowledge transfer to our clients.
  • Leading primary research projects that include
  • Development of policy insights and guidance to clients,
  • Synchronous and asynchronous surveys and interviews with key opinion leaders on value, access and pricing
  • Advisory boards
  • Stakeholder, advocacy, and reimbursement mapping
  • Advising and leading reimbursement negotiation strategies for biopharmaceutical products
  • Public payers (pCPA, provinces, federal plans) and
  • Private payers (insurance carriers, PBMs).
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with key external clients, payers and other stakeholders to advance thought leadership and business solutions for the business.
  • Collaborating and proactively building cross-functional relationships with other BPS teams that provide clients with innovative market access solutions

Requirements (Experience, Qualifications, Skills, Attributes):

  • 8+ years of experience in market access, strategic planning, pricing, policy development, business planning and negotiations.
  • Strong strategic understanding of Canadian biopharmaceutical market access, along with an understanding of the global biopharma market.
  • Direct experience leading and negotiating reimbursement agreements with drug programs is a requirement of this role.
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and oral, and able to distill complex issues into clear, concise, and actionable advice for clients.
  • A growth mindset, expert motivator of team problem-solving, strategic thinking, and analytical expertise are imperative for growth in this role.
  • Must be fully comfortable and confident leading direct reports, collaborating with multi-stakeholder teams and working cross-functionally with internal team members
  • Can build and maintain productive relationships with Canadian and global clients.
  • Up to 15% time required for travel domestic or international
  • A passion for leading market access, and policy – for improving access to innovative and specialized therapies.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$95,100 - $158,500
