About the opportunity

These positions will be part of a team on the MRFF-funded Befriending with GENIE clinical trial research study, which aims to improve the quality of life of people living with dementia and their caregivers from culturally and linguistically diverse communities using the BEFRIENDING with GENIE intervention, which comprises a program of visits and an online social engagement tool.

You will assist the project team with administering the intervention, including visiting people living with dementia and their caregivers who are living in the community, data collection using both quantitative and qualitative measures, and data transcription. You will be required to have excellent culturally appropriate communication and language skills in one or more of the following cultural and language groups: Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), Italian, or Hindi. Strong collaboration with any of these communities in Sydney, and prior experience in working with older people with dementia will be an advantage for these positions. You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Excellence, Trust and Accountability.

Formal training on the intervention and mentorship will be provided to the successful applicants prior to starting the program.

Your key responsibilities will be

  • Assisting the research team with administering the intervention, including visiting people living with dementia and their caregivers.
  • Conduct participant recruitment from one of the language groups described above.
  • Data collection using both quantitative and qualitative (interviews) measures, and data transcription.
  • Collecting social networking information using computer software.
  • Assist with communication of project outcomes.
  • Administrative support for project activities, including organising meetings and preparation and collation of documents.
  • Undertake training and mentoring.
  • Other duties as directed.

You will have

  • Completion of, or enrolment in, a health-related degree OR equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation (e.g., arts, nursing; occupational therapy; psychology; public health; social science, social work).
  • Fluency in English and at least one of the following languages: Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), Italian, or Hindi.
  • Excellent verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently to complete tasks and in a team.
  • Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office suite including MS Teams.
  • Availability to work after hours.
