Senior Fundraising & Development Manager Location: Cambridge or remote (UK only) with occasional travel to Cambridge
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 p.a. full-time equivalent, dependent on experience
Basis: Permanent contract; full-time, part-time or flexible

The role

We are looking for a Senior Development Manager to join our ambitious Fundraising and Development team to develop their career and make a significant contribution to the team's growth and success. Through effective relationship building and account management, you will work with colleagues to grow and manage a global portfolio of strategic, high-value corporate partners and foundations that share our mission and support us to advance it. You will manage a team of [2] UK based Development Managers and be directly responsible for securing new grants, donations, sponsorship and contract income.

We welcome applicants from a background in fundraising, and similar fields such as sales, recruitment, or account management. Being able to build strong relationships is essential for this role.

This role will be based in the UK to enable the delivery of our global fundraising programme.

The role

  • A member of the leadership team for Fundraising and Development, supporting the successful delivery of the strategy and business plan.
  • Work with the Director of Fundraising and Development and the Senior Development Manager US, to manage and grow the global pipeline of current and prospective funders.
  • Build, manage and maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders to support pipeline development.
  • Work collaboratively across internal teams to ensure bids and proposals are aligned with strategic objectives, clearly communicated and viable.
  • Work with finance to build accurate budgets to reflect proposal and bid development activities to enable us to deliver plans successfully.
  • Proactively develop a pipeline of new opportunities for contract/statutory income and secure these to extend the impact of our existing products and to support the development of new products and programmes that advance our mission in all of the Foundation’s markets
  • Line manage [2] direct reports, providing them with clarity and support to enable them to do the best work of their careers. This includes setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, coaching, and agreeing on personal development plans.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of high level funders to cultivate strong, productive, and long-lasting partnerships
  • Monitor performance, including preparing regular Fundraising and Development reports about the progress of grants and deliverables.
  • Ensure funding relationships, applications, stewardship, and the management of the grant are appropriately documented on Salesforce to enable effective reporting.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction, culture and values of the organisation.

Experience and personal attributes

  • A natural collaborator with a track record of working successfully across teams to achieve results.
  • Passionate about technology, education, or digital making, and familiar with the ecosystems and communities that surround these fields.
  • Experience of developing long-term, (100K+) relationships with corporate partnerships, foundation, individuals, and/or statutory/institutional funders.
  • People management and development experience, including line management of remote team members.
  • Evidence of being highly adaptable: able to interact with a wide range of people, with strong advocacy, influencing and networking skills.
  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience of managing relationships, ideally with large companies or funders, particularly around restricted funding
  • Effectiveness in working successfully with multiple stakeholders across organisations to achieve solutions and deliver results.
  • Practical experience in creating compelling applications.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrable ability to prepare and present a compelling case for support and develop insightful impact reports.
  • Excellent numeracy and budgetary management skills, and proficiency in using spreadsheets.
  • Experience of setting and achieving goals and targets for yourself and the wider team.
  • Outstanding organisational and administrative skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven experience in using Salesforce or an equivalent system to track and measure the partnership pipeline and make decisions based on data.
