We are looking for a People and Culture Generalist to join our team!
The People and Culture Generalist supports the daily functions of the larger People and Culture department and is the first point of contact to provide strategic human resources advice grounded in best practice and aligned with the operational and strategic goals of CMHA Peel Dufferin.
Status: Permanent full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $53,808 - $64,421 annually (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)
Location: This position is based out of our 601-7700 Hurontario St. office
What You Will Do:
Facilitate the coordination and approval process for workplace accommodation requests and support broader People and Culture team with leaves management
Support and advise on complex employee relation issues including workplace complaints, conflict, and terminations. Lead fact finding activities and investigations
Contribute to policy development and review as it relates to human resources requirements and legislation to support organizational strategy and priorities
Interpret the application of policies and procedures related to progressive discipline, performance management and attendance management
Conduct full cycle recruitment and onboarding
Build a strong business relationship with organizational units and collaborate with business leaders both internal and external to the organization
Coach and support leaders on various aspects of the employee lifecycle including performance management, employee engagement and HR policy and process execution
Provide ongoing support for human resource initiatives (annual employee survey, job fairs, Canada Summer Jobs, etc.)

What You Need to Join Our Team
Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business or related field required
Current membership with the Human Resources Professionals Association preferred
CHRP or CHRL designation in progress, an asset
Minimum of five (5) years’ recent relevant experience in Human Resources. Experience in a non-profit, healthcare, or social services setting an asset
Demonstrated skills and experience with complex employee relations and workplace investigations is required
JHSC certification is an asset
Strong understanding of compensation principles including job evaluation is required
Experience with compensation & benefits, absence & disability management, and HRIS transactions
Knowledge of Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health &Safety Act, AODA, Pay Equity Act
Demonstrated accountability with a strong work ethic is required. Must be self-directed with the ability to exercise independent discretion; strong awareness of confidentiality is required
Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence
Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework
Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset
Ability to travel within and around Peel Region and Dufferin County as required
A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
