The Meteorologist is responsible for the preparation of weather forecasts and products to support the activities of the Pelmorex Business Units. Working in a team environment, the incumbent will analyze observational and computer model data, and apply his/her knowledge of the current and future state of the atmosphere.

Please note this is an On call, shift based position that requires you to work on Weekdays, Weekends and Stat holidays.

As an On-Call employee, your working hours will vary based on the operational needs of the Company. Please be advised that there is no obligation for the Company to schedule you for a shift, On-Call employees are called upon to replace employees on vacation, sick days, or unplanned events.

Please Note, this is a remote position and we are only considering candidates who are eligible to work in Canada and can work Eastern Standard Hours (EST)

WHAT IS THE DAY TO DAY LOOK LIKE

• Maintain a consistent, quality controlled database of gridded weather forecast parameters which are used in the generation of forecast products on Pelmorex consumer platforms
• Formulate a daily conceptual framework of the weather situation, and apply professional expertise in evaluating and selecting NWP model guidance that is used as the basis for the forecast grids
• Monitor current weather conditions and perform regular quality control checks on the forecast grids
• Diagnose the cause of forecast departures in NWP guidance and the official database, modifying the grids to improve the accuracy of the forecast
• Utilize grid editing tools to effectively add value to the numerical forecast grids
• Follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistency among forecast parameters and adapt to forecast process changes as new technology is introduced
• Responsible for the analysis, interpretation and dissemination of meteorological data
• Monitor the weather product that is conveyed to our customers on our various platforms

WE ARE HOPING YOU HAVE

• Degree in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology or related discipline
• Strong knowledge of North American meteorology, climates and geography
• Solid understanding of numerical weather prediction models and their output
• Strong computer knowledge/technical background
