About the opportunity
We now have an exciting leadership opportunity for a Deputy Director of Development, Science to join the Advancement Portfolio of the University.
The Deputy Director of Development, Science is a senior role in the team, responsible for growth of the University’s fundraising program. As a senior member of the STEM and Business team, the role will have oversight of a suite of fundraising initiatives which may include those of the Faculty of Science, Sydney School of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Engineering, University of Sydney Business School.
Building on a number of established relationships and a strong trajectory of major and principal gifts, this position will establish, manage and nurture a number of philanthropic relationships with existing and prospective donors for the STEM portfolios.
The incumbent will take a leadership role in fundraising within an assigned area of the STEM and Business academic partners and will use their skills and experience to close gifts of $1+ million and attain significant personal fundraising targets. The incumbent will also grow and develop a small team of high performing fundraising staff who will work collaboratively with the wider Advancement Portfolio.
Working closely with academic leadership, this position is also charged with growing a culture of philanthropy with our academic partners to increase awareness of and engagement with the fundraising process.

substantial background in major gift fundraising, with a demonstrated ability to identify and negotiate $1 million plus gift opportunities
a strong track record of achievement and meeting stretch financial targets
demonstrated relationship building and strong leadership skills with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders
experience leading a team of three or more and can manage and drive team performance supporting the team targets as well as well as owning a specific pipeline
highly developed emotional intelligence - self-aware with exceptional interpersonal skills
the ability to work autonomously and is naturally a high-achiever and driven by success both professionally and personally
demonstrated mentoring/coaching of junior development colleagues
superior time-management, prioritisation and organisation skills.
an understanding of, and is passionate about, STEM, business and innovation related education and research impact.
