About the opportunity

A team from the University of Sydney is about to begin a project that will collect and analyse data from selected groups of non-medical professionals working in Australian general practices. The Occasions of Care Explained and ANalysed (OCEAN) tool is an online data collection platform used to collect and analyse clinical activity data from primary health care clinicians.

This innovative research will involve data collection from general practice nurses, nurse practitioners and physiotherapists ā€” the first data collected on clinical activity for these professions in primary care in Australia. The resulting dataset will create an important evidence base to assess the contribution of these non-medical professionals to the wider general practice team.

We are seeking a Data Analyst/Senior Biostatistician to lead data analyses and share data security responsibility in our primary care health services research. You will support the OCEAN team by providing expert statistical advice and strong data governance process management, ensuring achievement of the objectives of the project.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop, implement, and manage data management protocols, including data checking and quality control, for the OCEAN project

  • perform advanced statistical analysis, program complex algorithms, and generate reports for research projects, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to best practices in statistical methodology

  • provide statistical advice to researchers, link datasets from multiple sources, and prepare derived datasets for analysis.

  • implement statistical and data management governance protocols to ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements

  • assist with grant applications and sample size power calculations.

  • collaborate with research teams and university portfolios, providing statistical expertise in the interpretation and publication of research results

  • engage and build strong relationships with stakeholders, facilitating discussion to address concerns and gather feedback, ensuring alignment with work area goals

  • manage work area reporting and compliance ensuring accurate information on university systems and adherence to work area requirements

  • oversee resource management within the work area, balancing financial, personnel, and technology assets to ensure consistent delivery of work area services. ā€‹

About you

  • possesses tertiary qualifications or demonstrated relevant, equivalent professional experience in statistics, mathematics, and/or data science

  • has strong knowledge of statistical programming languages such as R, STATA, SAS etc

  • has experience working on research projects involving real-world large health data sets

  • possesses experience in reporting analytical findings to scientific and broader audiences, including documentation, presentations, papers and data visualizations

  • has a high level of attention to detail and is highly organised

  • demonstrates planning, analysis and communication skills together with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands

  • has some experience mentoring or managing staff.
