Our team of educators and researchers lead internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will work with Dr Rachel Tan at the Brain and Mind Centre to understand the pathological underpinnings of Motor Neuron Disease and develop measures that will lead to improved patient diagnosis. You will develop and run protocols using multi-omics and histopathological techniques in human biosamples and be part of a lab that prioritises collaboration, openness, respect and encourages innovation. Opportunities exist to develop further research ideas through the supervision of research undergraduate and research postgraduate projects.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments involving many optimisable variables

  • work both independently and collaboratively to meet project objectives

  • effectively time manage concurrent projects

  • process, analyse, and interpret samples/datasets from large cohorts

  • publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.

About you

  • PhD in a relevant area, such as in neuroscience, histology, or bioinformatics

  • expertise in immunohistochemistry, microscopy and advanced image analysis techniques

  • experience with omics techniques and downstream bioinformatic processing

  • a strong research track-record, with a proven ability to lead studies to completion as evidenced by lead author publications with demonstrated impact

  • strong problem-solving skills paired with the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement

  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and coordinating team activities is desirable.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
