Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high-quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Court Triage and Housing Worker to assist specifically referred clients to address issues exacerbating their risk of homelessness. The overall outcomes are to reduce the ongoing homelessness and re-offending among court support participants.

Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a permanent, full-time position based in Coburg North, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 5.

You will successfully

  • Assess immediate and long-term housing needs to service users who are at risk of homelessness upon release on bail.
  • Explore and connect service users to appropriate housing options and advocate on behalf of service users to access support services and to establish meaningful community supports.
  • Support clients to develop an individual case plan and the journey towards goals will be monitored and reviewed.
  • Assist clients who have experienced family violence, or are at risk of family violence, to access flexible support packages.
  • Using a trauma informed model of care, provide outreach and case management to clients referred from Court Services Victoria.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Court Services Victoria, THM and head-leasing providers.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work or related community service field. Degree level preferred however lower qualifications with significant experience is suitable.
  • A current and valid Victorian Employee Working with Children Check.
  • A current First Aid Certificate.
  • A current Victorian Driver licence
  • The ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the homelessness sector including role, context, principles, philosophies, policies, regulation, and legislation.
  • Understand and apply homelessness models, approaches, theories and practices when dealing with clients.
  • Have knowledge of the Justice system and have experience working within correctional settings is considered highly desirable.
  • Experience in working with a range of stakeholders and networks.
