Position Overview
The Director of Software Engineering is a key leadership role at Diligent. This role is responsible for management and delivery of software for our premier product, Diligent Boards. They will lead multiple cross-functional teams to deliver high quality and valuable software that are used by company directors around the world.
Our Engineering Directors are expected to build, support, and maintain strong teams, primarily in our technical center of excellence in Budapest, but also globally. They partner with other Directors and senior level technology leadership to build a world-class engineering organization and help define our culture. They actively participate in and contribute to the strategy of the business and take ownership of the successful execution of the strategy as it relates to the creation, delivery and maintenance of our market leading SaaS solutions.
The Director of Software Engineering will create and maintain positive relationships with the internal and external stakeholders of the business to establish a client-focused culture and drive innovation in the product offerings.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a community of actively engaged and highly performant teams
- Work effectively with product management, project management, and senior management to allocate resources appropriately, juggling tactical needs with longer term strategic needs
- Ensure technical excellence across the group by ensuring common engineering practices like design reviews, security reviews, and others are performed at a high level across the organization.
- Recruit a world class software development team, while utilizing existing resources as appropriate
- Foster creation and adherence to technical standards
- Define new solution architectures and technology roadmap
- Take a hands-on approach and stewardship to the entire software development life cycle:
- Lead software architecture and technical design, and set the technical direction for the team
- Serve as a senior authority within the software development team
- Mobilize the team to effectively resolve major customer issues
- Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation and excellence, while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our software development organization
- Embrace SRE mindset with development scrum teams where ownership of applications and platform are core to team
- Continuously stay up to date with all industry changes and bring new ideas to the team
Required Experience/Skills:
- 7+ years in software development or software engineering leadership roles including predominantly SaaS product experience in recent years
- Successful track record in building successful SaaS products within innovative, growth-oriented companies
- Strong communication skills
- Familiarity with .Net architecture and database development.
- Experience with containerization technologies and processes. Docker and Kubernetes or equivalent
- Experiencing managing several software development teams at once
- Experience with executing agile at scale
- Drive an agile and DevOps culture
- Ability to take a collaborative and business-oriented approach and to establish the ability to build strong relationships and influence at senior management levels of the organization
