Staff Semiconductor Engineer

Aptiv’s custom silicon management group provides critical custom Silicon for all Aptiv products including Autonomous Driving, ADAS, Infotainment, Zonal Control, and others. This team translates the system requirements of Aptiv’s next-generation products into the SOC/IC requirements and architectural design, then manages the technical performance of external SOC/IC design partners who design the custom silicon SOCs/ICs for use in Aptiv’s products.

Your Role

We are looking for a Yield & Quality Professional to work on Aptiv’s future generation of products. The role involves improving yield and quality of Aptiv SOC and problem-solving to deliver BIC (Best in Class) Yield and Quality of the product. You will monitor quality targets and yield performance and define various yield models and QRE methodology to achieve world class yield targets. The Yield and QRE Engineer will be responsible for Qualification of the product and will be the POC for yield improving activities. This is a high-visibility role and regular interaction with design suppliers and foundry and will require deep semiconductor technical knowledge on a day-to-day basis. You will own SOC reliability test planning & logistics with design partner by taking part in weekly discussions. In your daily job you will:

• Act as the POC (Point of Contact) for all yield and quality related development of the SoC product.
• Lead Yield and Quality related weekly calls with suppliers for clear updates on yield status, forecasts, reliability evaluation and test screening methods.
• You will setup the SOC Quality & reliability validation criteria & plan with suppliers and ensure plana and schedule are on track during program execution
• You will own & drive yield improvement projects including defect sources and investigations and will monitor daily/weekly/monthly yield/defect trends.
• Improve yield on SOC products and help with technical risk assessment and disposition plans for material affected. You will be involved in technical risk assessment pertaining to monthly, quarterly yield projection and quality improvement activities.
• Be responsible for the overall health of the Yield and Quality KPIs as set by the program manager.
• Development and management of program plans and schedules and coordination across stakeholders to drive program execution.
• Ownership of internal and external communication at both technical and executive levels.
• Expert of yield analysis Defects control, quality reports to find correlations and form technical hypothesis to test out to solve yield issues.
• Work with Multiple teams/lead cross functional task force teams to solve urgent issues.
• Establish and maintain Quality assurance of the SOC by using industry standards, processes, and methodologies.
• Responsible for SOC Yield & Quality & reliability processes -TDDB, HCI, BTI, EM, SM, HTOL etc.

Your Background

Key ingredients for succeeding in this role are your:

• BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics engineering or Material Science or related fields with 6+ years of related professional experience.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in Yield and/or Quality of a semiconductor fab/fabless environment.
• Experience in IDM, foundry, semiconductor industry, testing, test methods & hardware on at least 14nm technology nodes and/or below in HVM.
• Experience in setting up CPU or SOC/ASIC Yield, quality & reliability validation plan and execution.
• Experience in defining yield models & excellent problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree and/or PhD in material science, mechanical, electronics, electrical Engineering or related fields with 8+ years of experience.
• Experience with Quality Management tools (FMEA, 8D, 3Leg/5Why change control, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills, Quality mindset, semiconductor processing knowledge.
• Knowledge of concepts of process capability, true spec and CIP techniques.
• Experience in New Product Introductions (NPI) & qualification of Customer SOC from concept to mfg.
• Good knowledge of IC silicon/package fail mechanisms/symptoms, Reliability and FA process and testing tools and reporting.
• Monitor and review PCN (Process Change notice) proposals by suppliers ensuring they are meeting Aptiv’s PCN guidelines.
• Knowledge of Statistical techniques (ANOVA, Multi variate analysis), characterization & FA techniques.
• Experience/knowledge of Automotive semiconductor products.
