The Director, Engineering; Equity Investment Group will provide the vision, leadership, innovation, and expertise to successfully apply technology and a data-centric approach to solving for the Equity Investment Group’s needs. The goal is to deliver best-in-class technology to our Equity Investment Group. This leader will experiment to identify opportunities to drive value through technology and data in our research and investment process and will drive the delivery to seize on these opportunities. They will champion world class data engineering practices to collect, harvest, govern and utilize investment data throughout the Equity Engineering organization. The successful candidate will demonstrate good judgement in balancing internal and external solution options to provide best value for customers.

More specifically, the Director, Engineering; Equity Investment Group will be responsible for:

  • Leading an organization of 100+ associate engineers and vendor partners.
  • Working with the Investment Group’s Chief Information Officer, Equity Investment Group leadership, the Investment Group Technology Leadership Team, and partner teams to develop a shared vision and roadmap for Equity Investment Group technology.
  • Providing leadership and setting strategic direction for all global teams supporting Equity Investment Group and Investment-related technologies. Creating and delivering a well-defined strategy for Equity Investment Group Technology.
  • Collaborating with the broader Technology organization to effectively deliver on key priorities for the Equity Investment Group, and for the enterprise.
  • Partnering effectively across the organization and balancing the needs and priorities of multiple, diverse stakeholders. Establishing a close partnership with business leaders across the Investment Group and related operating groups.
  • Successfully combining delivery and operational excellence.
  • Fostering high engagement, innovation, and a culture of continuous learning, developing skills of the future to support a world-class Equity Investment Group Technology organization. Articulating a vision that can inspire our technology teams and business stakeholders alike.
  • Bringing the most up to date thinking on new technologies that can enhance the investor experience.
  • Helping to foster a culture of strong engineering, innovation, sharing, and operational excellence.
  • Overseeing the successful delivery of approved experiments and projects, promoting iterative, agile delivery practices and metric driven optimization.
  • Championing emerging data technologies and capabilities and how they can be used to drive value within the Equity Investment Group, and beyond.
  • Partnering with Investment Group Technology Product and Engineering Practice leaders to help with consistent application of both practices by the Equity Investment Group Technologies teams.

You have a proven track record leading a strategic engineering function for a large, critical division, influencing a broader technology organization, helping to set standards and define the technology operating model.

  • You have strong technical aptitude and experience of architecting and engineering a wide variety of solutions, including globally distributed and highly scalable systems and services, and the ability to both build in-house and integrate vendor solutions.
  • You have a strong track record of operational excellence.
  • You have experience in investment management and capital markets – business functions, financial instruments, investment research, portfolio management, trading, investment processing and systems and technologies that support them.
  • You drive business value, based on awareness of the financial services regulatory environment to help enable compliance and risk management through the effective use of data.
  • You are flexible and have a proven track record of delivering all types of outcomes – foundational technology, business enablement and business differentiation.
  • You have experience working in an integrated manner with the business through all phases of the business lifecycle: supporting business strategy, suggesting technology solutions for specific challenges, and providing a high level of service.
  • You have demonstrated proven program leadership. You have an ability to shape and drive large-scale, cross-functional, multi-level programs around people, technology, processes, and tools – balancing long-term strategy with quick wins.

You have the ability to champion the agenda and educate cross-functional stakeholders about the embedded value to the enterprise of available data, serving as a change agent for the organization to overcome cultural resistance often fueled by a “not-invented-here” mind-set.
  • Customer-centric. You have the ability to work back from the customer’s needs and value-orient work prioritization to address the highest business value opportunities.

Southern California Base Salary Range: $244,854-$416,252

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital’s annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
